Title: "Hints of Canon: Reading Between the Lines of 'The Road to El Dorado: Junior Novelization'"
Author: Kelsey (fan_of_miggie)
Fandom: The Road to El Dorado
Pairing: Miguel/Tulio
Disclaimer: The Road to El Dorado: Junior Novelization was written by Peter Lerangis. The Road to El Dorado was created by DreamWorks Pictures.
NOTE: The bolded paragraphs are excerpts from the book. The colored font represents the sentences and fragments that I found to be particularly gay. The normal font is my commentary on the excerpts.

"Miguel," Tulio said under his breath, "if I believed in fate, I wouldn't be playing with loaded dice."
Miguel's face fell. He cast a droopy, puppy-dog glance at Tulio.
Tulio fought the urge to give in. He hated when Miguel did this. Tulio was a sucker for his friend's sad expressions. "Not with the face," he warned. "No. No. No, no, no, nope, no--"
Zaragoza snatched back the map. "I said one more roll! My map against your cash."
Miguel kept staring at Tulio, his expressions changing by the moment: pouting...eager...pleading...trusting...hopeful...
It was too much. Tulio couldn't say no. He turned back toward Zaragoza, whose gargantuan frame was puffed out menacingly. "All right, Pee Wee, you're on!"

Tulio was a sucker for his friend's sad expressions is the sentence that gets me the most here. By the way, this book was written for kids between the ages of 10 and 14.
...Yeah.

Tulio and Miguel walked for days, pulling Altivo after them, checking off each symbol as they came upon it. With Tulio by his side, Miguel could concentrate on the map. With Miguel by his side, Tulio could regain courage after his accidents. Whatever happened, they knew they had each other--partners to the end. And that made the going easier.
Before long, the dangers didn't scare them anymore. They sang and told stories, keeping each other's spirits up. They laughed at Bibo's antics. At night, they slept under the stars.
Finally only one symbol remained: El Dorado itself. On a bright, crisp day, they searched for the city, warbling at the top of their lungs. They felt giddy with anticipation as they climbed a narrow hill.

I'd absolutely would have loved to see them sleeping under the stars in the movie. Indeed, that would have been nice...mmm, Migulio....

"Well, it was nice working with you, partner," Tulio whispered into Miguel's ear.

...I think I'll leave this one up to you guys.

Altivo chuckled at the antics. But his face suddenly fell as he spotted a movement behind a potted plant. It was a person--an intruder. He tried to signal to the two men.
But Miguel was in heaven. He jumped up on the throne, throwing his arms wide triumphantly. "We'll be living like kings--Miguel and Tulio!"
"Tulio and Miguel!" Tulio corrected, leaping up next to him and flexing his biceps.
Miguel threw his arm around his partner. "Mighty and powerful gods!" they both shouted as they practiced a few powerful-god poses.

They're so cute...:-D. And gay. Did I mention gay?

That evening, the entire city turned out for a last banquet for the gods.
Tulio sat forward on his throne, stuffing his face, waving at the citizens, happy that his plan had worked.
Miguel tried to smile, but he couldn't. He tried to eat, but he had no appetite. Part of him wanted to rage at Tulio. Part of him wanted to plead why?
But he remained silent, stymied by the rush of feelings.

"Well," Miguel said bitterly, "isn't 'king' kind of a step down from 'god'?"
"What?" Tulio gave his partner a shrewd look. He could tell Miguel was having second thoughts about leaving. "Hey, Miguel, we can't stay here. We have a plan, remember?"
Miguel's eyes were cold. "Nobody said you have to stay."
"Whaaa--?" Tulio hadn't expected that. He felt as if he'd been punched.
Split up the team? The thought had never crossed his mind. All along, everything had been we. In Spain and in El Dorado. Tulio could barely remember when it was any other way. Sure, the gold would be nice--and sure, he was in love with Chel. But a life without Miguel? It wouldn't be right. "But--"

THE ANGST. IT BURRRNS!

And that would be it, but I'd also like to share a quick pic I found in the background of the making-of clip on the DVD...

They're so CUUUTE! Man, I wish this was in the movie...it's perfect!

And now it's the end...:-P. I hope you all enjoyed!
