Aw, sweet. And yes, they are the most believable semi-canonical couple in the show (though possibly Jounouchi/Mai competes with them on that front, but Anzu/Yugi is far cuter). And excellent essay, and one that I enjoyed reading.

I'm glad that you liked it. Are there any changes that you would recommend? I ask because I always feel like I can do better, but I don't know where to begin.

Thank you for writing this!

I always liked the tension that Anzu showed for Yuugi and his dark/ancient self, especially in the manga.

First of all..
Yugioh is the story of Yuugi Mutou, who upon solving the Millennium Puzzle becomes drawn into the strange world of occult gaming, where losing a card game can get your legs cut off or your soul eaten by a hideous monster.
That was the best summary ever.

In general, I liked this manifesto. But one thing I picked up on was that you should have mentioned Anzu/Yami a bit more and compare it with Anzu/Yuugi, because that's a big reason why not many people dig into Peachshipping in the first place! xD

It made me realize a few things I didn't notice before. Like how their relationship became more mutual in the midst of Duelist Kingdom. And also how much Anzu is perfectly fine touchin Yuugi at certain moments, and flusters at others. I'd think of it as one of those young-love things, when touching someone without a reason such as to comfort them might give away feelings.

It was pretty good, and I agree with all your reasons. Anzu is definitely wearing the pants, and for some reason, it makes the pairing so much more sexy.

I'm glad that you liked the summary; it was something that I had thought long and hard about.

While I did contemplate discussing other ships in relation to Peachshipping, I decided that a shipper manifesto was best served by focusing on the ship in question. Besides, I would say that Yami no Yuugi/Yuugi is a much bigger part of why people don't ship Anzu/Yuugi, but that's neither here nor there. Perhaps this could become the subject for a LJ post?

Young love, sweet love. It's my favorite kind of love.

It's weird to say that Anzu is wearing the pants, since she's usually wearing shorts or tiny mini-skirts, yet it is very true all the same. And yes, it a considerable source of teh hot.

That is basically YGO in a walnut. There are plenty of other variations to that. It's the original "save the world by playing a game" anime.

True, but I've read two other manifestos where they did just that, and it somehow made the ship more believable. Not that they really concentrated on the opposing ships in question, but they mentioned it and either countered/compared it with the main ship. It was like a persuasive essay-like thing. And sure, this is an interesting subject!

Young love just seems so innocent (when it's not emoangst, that is), and I'm also a sucker for cute things.

There is a fanfic I've read once. Anzu contemplated wearing long jeans for one day because she believed she was wearing the pants in her and Yuugi's relationship. It had a cute ending. The title was simply "Wearing the Pants," I think. And opposing gender-based stereotypes is one of my likes in pairings, definitely.

And the power of friendship! You can't forget about that, because Anzu won't let you! (Note: Joke)

I'll have to get around to it, as I definitely have plenty to say on the subject.

I can remember experiencing young love. It's probably why I'm so enamoured with the concept.

I read that one too, and from what I can recall the ending was quite cute. And if only there was more subversions of gender stereotypes, and not just in romantic pairings either.

What an in-depth essay! I've been a fan of Yugioh for many years, and it has always seemed unfair to me how little attention Anzu/Yuugi gets. They are absolutely adorable, as you point out. I love that she's the assertive one, and that he's the cute and shy one. Roll reversal is a delicious thing! And I feel that their relationship is balanced in the way they both stick up for each other.

I guess I can understand the compulsion the fandom has to ship the spirits with their hosts, but honestly I find Anzu/Yuugi to be a refreshingly human and down-to-earth ship amidst all the light/dark fics. Who needs a romantic relationship with a mystical spirit when you have a crush on the bossy girl who saved you from bullies and offered you a kind smile?

I'm a Kaiba fan at heart, but you've reminded me once again why I love a good Anzu/Yuugi fic.

The role-reversal really is the best part of Anzu/Yuugi. All the other Yugioh pairings are either too traditional or too...slashy, to really allow for the sort of role-reversal that Anzu/Yuugi embraces.

Bossy Girl > Mystical Spirit? You better believe it! Nothing against Yami no Yuugi, as the relationship between the two Yuugi's is wonderful, but to me they're like twin brothers.

And while I'm definitely a fan of Kaiba in all his snarky rat-bastard glory, I have a really hard time writing him. For me, the Anzu/Yuugi dynamic and history is just so rich and full that I have to explore it as much as possible.

I loved this essay! You accurately defined major aspects about why this pairing is appealing and did a great job summarizing it's strengths and canon support. I really enjoyed reading it, and it got me excited for the manga I have yet to read. :) Great work, I'm so glad someone wrote this! Peachshipping is definitely a pairing that needs more love from its fandom.

I had a feeling that you would like this essay...call it a hunch. And I definitely like hearing that you're more excited to read the manga, and this is one pairing that can always use more love.

Do you mind if I friend you?
