I've had this essay saved to read until after I saw all of the finale, because i'm from the UK and I was afraid of spoilers - I'd love your thoughts on how Angela/Hodgins played out through the season. Anyhow, to the essay, very nice overview. What comes out is how interesting and well-developed all the relationships are, even though they involve Brennan and Zack and their issues with inter-personal relationships. Like you say - and show well - Angela/Hodgins has been a natural progression (and I say this as someone who missed a couple of S2 eps, including the first date ep AARGH. Something I will be making right when the DVDs are available. Oh, yes.) They're so charming. As you show, their intelligence and confidence, and the way the writers have written them mean that they provide a cocktail of charm - cutes and snark, and they definitely work as a contrast to B/B. Nice intro ( ... )

I liked it, but for some reason it just re-enforced my Zack/Hodgins OTP, which there also isn't enough of, given that in the tiny, tiny fandom it's mostly Brennan/Booth or Brennan/Angela. I'm actually considering writing the manifesto. I think that Hodgins/Angela is so disliked becuase it's so simple and natural. Sure, they complicated it with the whole "she's already married!" but not really. They have such a healthy relationship that is very unusual in TV land, and in most peoples eyes a little (or a lot) boring. They are an obvious, steady couple that has been allowed to stay that way becuase they're not Brennan or Booth. So why would anyone need to right fan-fiction about them?

haha yeah, i definitely get where the zack/hodgins is coming from. and i you have a point that the relationship is, by some standards, "boring". however, they're both such stubborn, vivacious characters that i see them as having HUGE fanfic potential. especially the little squabbles you know they get into, with neither wanting to be the one to give in first.

Oh, I love this :)

You have definitely captured what I love about Angela/Hodgins. And their continuing storyline has been wonderful -- I'm glad that the show gave them an obstacle they could work to overcome *together* instead of breaking them up.
