Theft and Philosophy

Was it really a matter of time until I also had some sort of fraud perpetuated upon me? Happened to both my parents, and I know my bank's been hacked like four times, but still I somehow thought I'd be immune. (It's that invincibility of youth, isn't it? Same reason my sister has had to be hounded into seat belt wearing). Should be able to sort it out; find out more on Monday. Totally not something you need to discover right before bed, though; this week was stressful enough. Don't think I did anything iffy online, but now I'm gonna have to be super careful. ::sigh::

Think I finally figured out what my problem - as it were - is with philosophy: I'm not actually interested so much in the subject matter; as in, I took the class because it was about the philosophies of ancient civilizations and it turns out the civilizations, their history and culture, are actually what I'm interested in. Plato is quite a good read, but I don't care about whether the soul is immortal or not, I care about the story being told. Thus, reading Aristotle, trying to explain the ways of the universe with the Unmoving Mover can only be intriguing to me if I try to get behind it, learn more about him, Plato's school, life and societal norms, etc., back then. There's a disconnect, which is why I could never be a philosophy major. I'm not one Aristotle would particularly like, I think either, based on the Metaphysics, for, while I want to know more about the world, about how things work - desire for understanding - the biology, the mechanics, are more my boat than who or what put this or that there. (His whole deal against evolution doesn't help his case, either). Well, at least I know now. Interesting class, great professor, though. ::shrugs::

Also, 30 Rock needs to be on five days a week, at least. =D

grr, life, college
