Eccleston love, Piper love

Received my Flesh and Blood DVD in the mail today, and it works regardless of its region-2 status. (^-^) Technology may on occasion frustrate me royally but in the end it does not disappoint - a work-around will invariably exist (see: those mkv and mp4 files that made me curse Vista's existence work now - got the second Sally Lockhart special in the latter format and the quality's excellent).  Looking forward to watching it, only saw a few minutes to determine what player'd I'd need.  Eccleston seemed to have lighter hair to me, kinda-sorta gingery (probably just the light) but I strolled on over to The DW Tragical History Tour to scope out pics of him from various roles to compare. It is lighter but you can't really effectively dye hair that short, I think (but maybe you can; I've dyed my hair red [geek: Scully influence] before but it was good length at the time).

While there, stumbled on some more pics from Jude, a '96 movie he did with Kate Winslet (whom I think is just wonderful - awesome, awesome actress, spectacular in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Little Children).  Vaguely knew about it before, but some of the pictures re-sparked my interest. Now I want to see it, no matter its cousin-love storyline (still don't quite understand that; a European and Southern thing it seems to me, if literature is correct - Mansfield Park and Gone with the Wind always come to mind.  It is a somewhat loose adaptation of Jude the Obscure, so there you go.) It's a depressing film, I hear, but my favorite books are those of a Russian mindset, and if you want to feel a bit of misery, pick up a Russian novel. And it's Eccleston - and Winslet - so really, I refuse to be deterred. This tenacity is leading me to a viewing of 28 Days Later even though I don't like horror movies (decided on this as I flipped past its sequel yesterday - thus I feel ridiculously fangirly at the moment).

Makes sense I'd get into an Eccleston jonesy state seeing as how I'm soaking up Piper and Tennant's work (Secret Diary of A Call Girl, Sally Lockhart, Learners, Blackpool, Casanova). Good thing classes are ending.

Late review: enjoyed Call Girl, thought it would end differently; looking forward to whenever S2 starts. Also rather enjoyed the first Sally Lockhart Mystery - The Ruby in the Smoke. 'Course, hard not to with Piper;s acting  - who again reaffirmed the severity of my girl-crush on her - and Pullman's writing. The boys in it weren't half-bad either, especially Fred (love a man in a vest; thus, love Simon on Firefly). Pullman does a great job at creating strong, smart heroines (which I will always appreciate). Needs to be more of that in entertainment.  It's been great to see Piper is such diverse roles, too - Rose, Belle/Hannah and Sally are such unique characters and each is - at her core - a very strong, confident woman.

And yes, this was another way to semi-avoid academic obligations (¬_¬)
