Commence with the Nostalgia!

Well, the 4th of July really wasn't a big deal for us. It was raining this year, and there weren't many shows in our area (either due to the economy or the overall lack of fireworks) so we called it a quiet night of dinner out and a little gaming and that was about it. But the day after, well...

Yup, nostalgia time. Went to go see a double feature at a drive in. Specifically, the Family Drive-in, down in Stephens City, just a short hop from Winchester and about a 100 miles or so from where we live. Yeah, probably a bit on the insane side, given the price of gas (but not so really, since we got to tank up there for $3.89 a gallon when it's already $4.11 at the place down the street from us). But I'm getting ahead of myself. It started earlier last week, when during a slow period at work I was reading Time, and came across this article talking about the renaissance of drive-ins. Remembering the old days when as a kid my grandparents used to load me and several other grandbrats in the car and take us to the Sundown in Whittier, as well as thinking of the last drive-in corpse I'd seen (the Kam Twins in Aiea), I wanted to see something that recalled those halcyon days of youth (I think I can fairly say I'm an old enough fart now to get away with this).

So, with a little digging on the internet at hand, I was lucky enough to find the Family, though it was somewhat of a distance from where I was. No problem, going anyway. So after talking the wife into this (note: it did not take much arm twisting), we headed off on our grand adventure. Arriving at the place was interesting (I thought I was going to be late, as we were running behind schedule, but it turns out that they didn't start the movie until 9 anyway), and being drive-in neophytes, we'll have to bring a table and some lawn chairs for the next time. But all in all, it was a blast, and I was giddier than I've been in some time, so I'm thinking we're going to try to organize a trek that way again. Hell, if I had enough money, I'd try building one myself, just because.

But, anyone up for a trip in August? ^_^
