Well, another year over and done with, and this one with some growing pains, ones that I hadn't thought possible. Did we screw up? Sure - I'll be the first to admit that. Everyone, myself included, made some boners during the planning process. But it's those kinds of things that help you to realize what went wrong and how you can overcome them. That's just the way things are in planning anything, whether a convention or a picnic, a baseball game or a field trip. Somewhere there will be gaffes and errors, and while you'll never get everything 100% perfect, you'll know from the mistakes where to correct for next year.
rmustang and my Panels crew: damn good job. Better than I've had in years past, and it looks like with more experience, things will just keep looking up.
bcclark88,
roannachan and the Traditional Gaming crew: glad this was organized into something more solid now. With the changes that will be coming, I'm hoping to be able to offer a bit more in the future that can be done for that.
flinkie,
rustyryu,
vallaugh and the Programming Security folks: great job keeping things running. Maybe it was a tad easier since everything was in one spot, but in many ways that brought different challenges as well. I'm hoping there will be ways to improve the workflow for next year.
My Video Ops guys and my Cospanels folks also did bangup jobs, though I don't have anyone here I can recognize on that account (well, except for
fausti, but he's got enough recognition - and headaches - as the Con Chair as is).
I take the blame for the mistakes. My folks should get the sunshine from the glory. I hope there will be a greater chance to do so for next year.
I suppose that there were supposed to be other thoughts involved here aside from my department, so I'll go ahead and list them. The Security folks did an incredible job under Rick, and it's going to be sad to see him go - maybe the "personnel" department that the higher ups talked about would be a wonderful place for him. Dealers' room did well, and
redneckotaku did his utmost to keep that ship under strong sail. Others did their part as well, from
xale_d to
anushin. from
superquarky to
mr_jenius and we survived another year. We persevered, despite the chaos and we're scarred yet wiser for the experience.
Well, 'nuff said. Time to type up the rest of the reports and send on my lessons learned for AUSA 2008.
