I know I was supposed to do some stuff regarding AnimeUSA last night, I know I was, but I felt really, really lazy about it - I'll make the announcement tonight, Mark. I'll have to do it tonight. I also know I was supposed to show
roannachan a picture regarding THAT WHICH SHALL NOT BE NAMED, but I kinda blew that off as well - sorry, Liz, I'll try to show that one to you tonight. Plus, I was supposed to do some maintenance on my wife's computer last night...well, at least we found out there's a problem...
Ahem.
So why was I lazy as all hell? The freedom of anime jumping several yards as I go along. The joy of beating the crap out of colorful villains. The shot of well-placed ice blasts. Yup, I'm playing City of Heroes again. It's not that I had planned to quit when I did three years ago, because the game was outstanding. No, it was more of a case that my computer at the time could not take the tech, and even though it was a new one, it still wasn't up to muster. Why play a game that you can't seem to get to work on your brand-new system? So I left the game, and for a number of years it sat untouched and unwanted on my shelf.
Fast forward to this week. I'd just quit Phantasy Star Universe, because as much as I really love the game (where else can you fight the forces of evil with a fluorescent light bulb?) the service of the US branch is appalling, and should not have to pay for a game that I cannot get online with because I'm using Windows Vista (for the record, yes, I've tried all of the workarounds), especially damning in light of the fact that the oft-blamed anticheat engine they use (GameGuard, a Korean work that's usually a piece of crap) has actually written a Vista-compatible version that Sega has instituted into PSU-JP, but NOT into PSU-EN, a pretty sad state of affairs, if you ask me. So, with a heavy heart, I decided I no longer need to fund Sega's lack of consideration for Vista gaming.
It was about that time that an old buddy of mine and I were talking online. I was looking for a new game to try out, and he suggested World of Warcraft. As much as I liked the first two strategy games, I have to admit that WC3 and Starcraft left me pretty cold the last time I touched them. Tabula Rasa was out, and as much as the anime-awesomeness of Rising Force Online seemed to catch my attention, but I didn't want something that required me to participate in constant PVP (I like PVP, but not gankfests). Nothing else really caught my attention, and anything that did isn't currently on the market (Aion looks outstanding!), so....
Maybe I'll run into some old friends again (I doubt this; the servers look far emptier than they used to). Or maybe when the move comes up, I'll switch from the Protector server to wherever
laridian and co. are. The wife is thinking about joining me in COH land (though we'll keep PSU as we'll need it for research purposes) and start up another superhero team.
Well, such is life. In the meantime, back to the heroism. ^_^
