There must be something in the air. Five people at work quit in the last week and a half. We were already shorthanded. When I started working three other people were doing the work that I'm now doing by myself. Now we've lost five more people. I think they left because the Dragon Queen (my little mental name for our division director) has been on one of her warpaths. The Virginia Department of Transportation Commissioner has decided that we can do more with less people. I doubt that they will replace all of the people who left. It's frustrating, especially when I get a call from someone yelling at me because it's taking so long for them to get their permit. I had someone leave a nasty message on my voice mail Friday. I had called him because his bond wasn't signed by the bond company and there wasn't a bond number on it, which means it's not valid. I called and left a message telling him he needed to either pick it up or we could send it back to him but he needed to get those things taken care of before we could process his permit application. He actually yelled in the message saying that he needed his permit now and that I should just do my job. I wish the message was rare but it's the typical attitude we get. Now that things are going to take longer it's only going to get worse. And people wonder why civil servants have attitudes.
