Last Saturday's Outing

I went to my friend Cyloran’s house last Saturday for a get together, I should have posted about it before now but I’ve been preoccupied with writing and errand running.

She looked great. She’s really lost a lot of weight and I’m proud of her for sticking to her lifestyle changes. It’s strange seeing her with short hair though. With the exception of last year, Cal has always had long hair and that’s how I was use to seeing her. The short hairstyle compliments her face and makes her look years younger so if I were her I’d keep it short.

We munched on pretzels and grapes while watching Halloween appropriate DVD’s I hadn’t seen the new Dr. Who so Cal graciously hooked up her laptop in the living room so that I could watch the first episode. The plot was more than fitting for Halloween. I was surprised at how well done it was. They managed to keep with the look and feel of the older Dr. Who episodes but at the same time make it modern and fresh. I instantly fell in love with the new Doctor. He could be a rival for Tom Baker’s Doctor, which is my favorite. Even his companion, Rose, is wonderful. Many of the Doctor’s female companions were a bit annoying. Rose isn’t annoying or helpless but she isn’t a tough Rambette either. And the chemistry between the two of them works. I can’t wait to see the rest of the season.

Then we watched the pilot for Night Gallery. Roddy McDowell is in the first segment and I absolutely adore Roddy. Cal is in agreement with me on that. I can’t think of a single piece of work that he’s done that I don’t like. Then we watched an episode of One Step Beyond. I loved the show when I was a kid. The fact that it’s based on true stories makes it all the creepier.

We did lunch at a Chinese buffet and had a nice time chatting about work and stuff. Then back to the cal abode for more DVD watchage. We watched the “The Haunting”, a 1963 movie that is atmospherically creepy. I didn’t think it bothered me until I went to bed that night. I hate to admit it but I had to turn the light on to sleep.

Then it was time for me to leave so that I could get home before the sunset because I can’t see to drive at night. We agreed to get together something in the spring so I’m looking forward to that.
