Fandom has been embracing The Beatles a lot this week, so I thought, what better way to fall in love with the show again than by having a Beatles prompt-fest? Everyone is welcome. Please spread the word. :D
It means what? - Part 2/2silmanumenelOctober 7 2011, 09:15:15 UTC
And Danny starts laughing. Bends over almost double, hands on his knees and just laughs. For at least a minute. Steve frowns, if Danny could see it he would probably call it his aneurism face which is not true because Steve doesn’t have faces, and tries to find any kind of sense in what is happening. He is failing spectacularly.
“Another world alright,” Danny finally wheezes, straightening up and taking that last step into Steve’s personal space, wrapping his arms around Steve’s waist. “You are cute, babe. You are so cute, and you have no idea. Don’t pout, it’s totally true. I know that under that badass SEAL exterior you are a giant goofball. But that’s okay, you’re my goofball. Anyway, Steven, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. LSD. The song is about one big acid trip. Hallucinations and out-of-body experiences and crazy colors and all that. I mean come on, rocking horse people eating marshmallow pies? Plasticine porters? Fascinating lighter flames that are dancing around? It’s practically screaming trip.”
Steve, who was about to protest against the notion of him being anything like cute, stops short and just stares at Danny. He’s always liked the song, liked the images of cellophane flowers and newspaper taxis, and he never thought…
He understands now why Danny was so angry, especially if the other thought Steve had explained that to Grace.
“Danny, I… I’m sorry. I didn’t know, honestly. I’d never… I wouldn’t…”
Danny silences him with a finger on his lips, then leans up to kiss Steve softly.
“I know, babe, and I’m sorry I flipped out on you. It’s just… she’s growing up so fast, and I know, at one point I’ll have to sit down with her and have the whole drug talk and tell her what they all look like and what they can do, but… Not yet. I don’t want her to know just yet.”
“Yeah, okay, I get it,” Steve tells Danny, ducking down for another short kiss, “but as long as she doesn’t know what the song means it’s alright, isn’t it?”
“I guess,” Danny says after a moment of silent contemplation, then he nods his head decisively and disentangles himself from Steve’s arms. “Yeah, you know what, you’re right. She probably thinks the same you did, that it’s a fairy tale… Okay, let’s get back inside, there’s a game I want to watch.”
With that Danny starts back towards the house, and Steve is about to follow him when some of his partner’s earlier words come to his mind again and make him halt in his tracks.
“Danno? There’s nothing about dancing lighter flames in the song.”
The way Danny’s shoulders hitch up and he’s walking faster suddenly is very telling, and Steve can’t bite back the grin that’s spreading over his face. He might’ve just uncovered another Danny-mystery that is now for him to solve.

I would have thought Steve knew what it was about lol but fairies and being in another world is cool too. another sort of trip.
I will admit when I heard the song for the first time I thought the same thing. then in school we talked about drugs and their effects and it clicked....oh boy did it click. I think I was maybe 12 when it clicked. The song is still one of my favorites though

When I first heard the song, I also didn't know what it meant. Add to that that my English wasn't that good yet at the time, and you can guess that it took a while before I understood what it was about. I think I was 17 or 18 or so. ^^' But just as you, the song is still one of my favourites. :D

Oh Steve is so precious. How could he NOT know that's what Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is about? Oh but my fiance didn't, so I guess some guys just don't get it? Oh but this is just so precious. LOL. Steve, you big old goofball! I love Danny going off on him. Hee!
