Last night most of the Aves, their parents, and some other cool guys went to the Hult Center to see the Western Collegiate a capella championships. It was pretty sweet. It was hosted by On the Rocks and Divisi, the male and female UO groups. Five groups competed. The first two were absolutely AWFUL. I can't remember where they were from, but boy, they sucked. They were all punk and rap and alternative rock, made a capella. All their songs sounded the same, and that sound was bad.
The third group was okay, but not too great. Oh yeah, these three were all co-ed, which I personally don't like. They don't sound as cool, and it doesn't show off the ranges of the different genders. It's more like a small choir than an a capella group. The fourth group was Outspoken, the OSU group. They ROCKED!!! They won all the awards: Best choreography, best solo, and first place. Jonah's brother is in Outspoken, and he had a grat solo in "Macho Man" where he stripped and did one-arm pushups. Hilarious.
After the actual competition, On the rocks and Divisi did performances of their own. On the Rocks was good, nice cover of "Stacey's Mom." Divisi was INCREDIBLE, the first all-girl a capella group I've really liked. They had great choreography, and sang cool stuff like "let's get it on," "imagine," and "Yeah." It was word. Afterwards, we went to Shari's (where else) and we were all so tired that everything was funny. All in all, a good day.
I have so much homework...
