I saw my very first patient at Clinic tonight (Clinic = Student Family Health Care Center, teams of students, run by a 3rd or 4th year, take care of a patient who would otherwise not get to see a doctor because they can't afford health care)!!! It's really the coolest and scariest thing ever to put on that white coat and have people see you as a doctor who knows things. Because I don't know things. But I got to take the patient's pulse, and listen to her heart, lungs, and bowel sounds, and feel the edema in her legs (edema = excess fluid, so when you press down the skin stays there for a few seconds). The saddest thing is that the only real reason she had to come in was because she couldn't get more of her blood pressure medication because medicare won't pay for it any more. The actual doctor figured out what we could give her, so hopefully she'll be ok. In conclusion: I am a doctor. HAHAHA.
This post was originally going to be about having the internet (which we FINALLY got yesterday ... I love the internet man!), but being a doctor is way, way better.
