Two years ago today, Mike and I were goofing off, taking pictures of my toes (among other things) as we waited for the nurse to take me to the OR. About an hour and a half later, Keira was in our arms... a little ticked off, a lot hungry. She is the joy of my life, and I still can't believe we have the privilege of saying "We made her!"
Keira is pretty much right on track... she's running, galloping, climbing, dancing, mimicking, kissing and hugging, and talking quite a bit. She's learning to play with her classmates, and will often bring them toys. Interestingly enough, rather than give and then want them back, she simply hands out toys similar to her own. I swear this is a daycare survival mechanism. :)
And, of course, it's not all sweetness and light. We're working pretty hard on getting her to tell us what she wants instead of whine for it, and of course there are the two-year-old power plays... the tantrum, the whine and flop, the constant chant of "No!" On the other hand, we've also learned quite well that these kinds of behaviors typically happen when she's either hungry or tired.
As for today... I was a little concerned this morning because Keira has moved up to the next room at her daycare. Her teachers, my mom, and I all talked to her about it, of course. We told her she'd be with Ms. Jackie and she'd see lots of her old friends (we listed them), and that she's a big girl now. This morning, I sang "Happy Birthday" to her a couple of times and we (ok, I) talked about how big she is now. And when we got in... it was just fine. She was very excited to be in the room (she's visited once or twice before) and playing with all the cool toys, especially the cars. Have I mentioned my daughter *loves* cars? Because she does. And one of her old friends was there. When I left, she was handing her buddy a car, even. So... I guess I didn't need to worry too much. I think she's going to be even happier later in the day when she gets to play in the big yard where the swings, slides, and tricycles are. :)
Disneyland trip tonight. We should be arriving around 6:30, and anybody who can make it is welcome. Actually, we'll probably take her to DCA... last time we went, I promised her a ride on 'Mater and it didn't happen. So this time for sure!
