It's the suit.
SUIT OF EVILLLL lol

See, now curiousity (and boring chem class) has made me research this play and it looks pretty interesting. It's called "Prelude to a Kiss" and it's all drama llama filled

I always love seeing comedic actors doing drama, it just makes it that much more intense

Yeah, I read the entire interview with the pics. Great stuff.
I WANNA SEEEEE GAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

That's my one hangup about live theater, as much as I love and adore it. There's almost nobody preserving it properly so you can't just go back in time and watch it. Especially not the little-known plays like this one. Most bootlegs are Broadway or popular shows.

IKR!!!!!

What I wouldn't give to see the original run of Wicked with Idina and Kristen or Rent with NPH, but at least there are clips of that.

I wanna see Alan Tudyk being all dramatic dangit!!

....you mean there's a shoddily shot Act 1 of NPH in Rent. *may or may not have been scouring the internets for the better portion of a year*

ME TOO I WANNA SEE HIM ON LIVE THEATER AAAAH

LOL
There's also that forbidden video of Broadway Backwards with Neil AND DAVID that doesn't seem to exist?
Or footage of The Paris Letter?
Or RSL doing Invention of Love or that one play where he played a paraplegic...
What do you mean they haven't invented a time machine yet!?

What is it about comedic actors that lets them portray heart-wrenching dramatic characters so... seamlessly?

lol, our thread is so random

I think I've seen that. Or a clip of it, or a sound bit. They sing Take Me Or Leave Me from Rent, I believe.

AND I SAW LIKE ONE TEENSY CLIP OF INVENTION OF LOVE AND I FREAKED OUT. AND WHAT ABOUT THE MUSIC MAN. HE FREAKING SINGS IN THAT. RSL. SINGING. WE DESERVE TO HEAR MORE THAN JUST THAT LITTLE BIT FROM A CHORUS LINE AT THE END OF THAT ONE EPISODE OF HOUSE. He was in a play where he played a paraplegic? Whaaat. Need to see, seriously.

And come on. Hugh Laurie. Comedic actor. And he's freaking fantastic.
Appropriate icon is more than a bit appropriate.

BUT I WANT THE WHOLE THING. C'MON, IT'S JUST ONE SONG, HOW HARD COULD IT HAVE BEEN TO GET THE WHOLE THING?

lolol
The funniest thing about RSL's plays are the coloration they have with the whole House/Wilson relationship.

Invention of Love: He played a guy nicknamed 'House' who was in love with his male best friend.

(Now I'm quoting):

THE VELVET HOUR - RSL PLAYS A HALF-FUDDY-DUDDY/HALF-SLICKSTER WHO HAS TO CHOOSE BETWEEN A HOT WOMAN AND A CUTE GUY WHO WANTS TO DO HIM

LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT - RSL PLAYS A DUDE WHO IS "TRYING DESPERATELY TO HANG ONTO HIS BELIEF IN NORMALITY" WHILE DEALING WITH A LOVED ONE'S ADDICITON TO MORPHINE

THE FIFTH OF JULY - RSL PLAYS A GAY CRIPPLED GUY LIVING WITH HIS BOYFRIEND

Yes, RSL has quite the voice on him... Ahh...

Speaking of which, WHERE THE FRICK IS HUGH LAURIE'S EMMY? IMMIGRANT CRAP! THEY'RE PULLING SOME IMMIGRANT CRAP I TELL YOU!!

I KNOW. IT MUST BE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE AND I WILL FIND IT OR DYE TRYING.

*gasping for breath*
OMFG LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.
You're right, that's remarkably similar to the House/Wilson stuff going on. *rofl*

He really does have a good voice. HOUSE MUSICAL. DO IT. NOW. HOUSE AND WILSON DUET, I DEMAND ONE. COMPLETE WITH PIANO/GUITAR/HARMONICA/WHATEVER ELSE THEY CAN PLAY.

AND IKR. HE WAS ROBBED! ROBBED I TELL YOU! *shakes fist*
HE SO FREAKING DESERVED IT LAST YEAR OR AT LEAST THIS YEAR BUT NOOOOOO.
AND I DON'T CARE IF RSL DOESN'T CARE ABOUT GETTING AN EMMY FOR SUPPORTING ACTOR, HE FRAKKING WELL SHOULD HAVE IN SEASON FOUR, OR EVEN FIVE. HOLY CRAP HE WAS BRILLIANT. PERFECT COMEDIC TIMING IN THE SEASON OPENER WITH THE GUITAR AND PERFECT DRAMATIC MOMENTS IN 'WILSON'S HEART' AND AAAAH.
*flails angrily*

I present to you:

Clip from The Music Man - 'Till There Was You'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9nT7faxgKk&list=QL
HIS VOICE. *swoons* <33333333333

RSL in The Music Man - 'The Sadder but Wiser Girl' (2001)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjlrw8s6COY
*passes out* <3333

RSL in The Violet Hour
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAGtcXXXWd4

RSL in The Invention of Love (2001) - two clips AND THEY'RE ACTUALLY PROSHOT.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teg8-iqkYOA&feature=related
The second one ew ew ew no. RSL with facial hair does not attractive make, although I still adore him. He does have this adorable giggle though.

RSL singing the hymn 'Softly and Tenderly' from the film 'Chelsea Walls' (which I'm pretty sure Ethan Hawke directed or something. omg his voice is so pretty.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rnDGYkTl3s&list=QL

RSL singing 'Promising' from the very end of 'Chelsea Walls'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sWzfAj_DCg

And the fact that Invention of Love was proshot means that there's probably the whole thing somewhere; this must have been done for posterity's sake. :D
And omfg the second clip, I can so see Hugh Laurie acting that other guy's part.

Also for the heck of it:
Michael Crawford interview on Parkinson. He seems so good-natured and I'd love to meet him.

I love how this entry about knitting somehow led to us chatting about theater

But theater is awesome. Duh.

I do love that knitting -> theater talk though.
Hey, Rent scarf. That's such a plausible gap. >>;
