My weekend was crazy awesome you guys.

This whole week there's been a Whedonland mafia game that just ended today. It was rather epic and I was happy to be an assassin. Fun screenshots from the last two nights of chat will show up on this post later.

Also. harbek and kasiopeia. I read The Hunger Games. The first one. OMFG. Dystopian futures are one of the things I love - reaaaally love - when done well, and holy crap, that's done so well. One of the best books I've ever read in a really really long time. To the point where I was so absorbed I could visualize it really well in my mind, and couldn't hear people calling for me about five feet away. (The last time that happened, I think, I was reading the last two Harry Potter books, and even then I was drifting in-and-out of Deathly Hallows even though I read it for a straight 5 1/2 hours.) I nearly cried at least once (was at someone's house so it would be odd to randomly cry, or I would've), and got incredibly upset a few other times. Then I found out there's gonna be a movie released March 2012. They're filming in Georgia from May-September 2011 and casting for extras as well as leads. I'm SO submitting my acting resume (what little there is of it) when I get the chance to talk to my parents so they're aware of it. The least I can do is try, and if National Guard interferes, so be it, but even as an extra in one scene I'd kill for the chance. Plus it's something cool on my resume if I do get it!

I waited at least a week to get this book from the library, as I had to get in the queue for it when it was available, and then I couldn't stop reading it the whole day I had it. Checked not only my library, but the libraries in the three closest cities to me. (even if it means I have to apply for their limited (free) library card.) They have at least 25 copies between all of them of book two. Guess how many were available? NONE. ASDFGHJKL. And I'm like third in the queue for my area. Book three, of course, there's several free. Go figure. I've been freaking out periodically for the last three days straight because it ends SO well but just teases you with a cliffhanger. I know when I have the money, I'm buying all three.

We bring you back to our scheduled LJ post (my little weekend of pure awesome):

Friday: Went alpaca-wrangling!
My friend is helping out on an alpaca farm, and wanted to know if I wanted to help sort the fleece (the long pieces to be made into yarn from the short ones that can't).. well, we started that, but got sidetracked by the vet showing up to ultrasound the pregnant ones, so we helped sort/wrangle them while she did her thing, and there'll be 9 baby alpacas in November! They're so adorable and omg I want one.

Saturday: Hung out with the awesome Angela at her SCA event, in renaissance-period garb. Nothing fancy, just a long, floor-length plain yellow dress. It was all one piece, and definitely warm and comfy. Watched some jousting/swordfighting, checked out the various gorgeous entries for the artistic contest, and then had an amaaaazing German feast for dinner. Went back to Angela's house, finally decided on a Classic Who episode to watch (Fourth Doctor's Talons of Weng-Chiang, and wow, it was pretty good - including a really creepy ventriloquist's dummy, the fun duo Jago and Litefoot, a hilar giant rat-puppet as a monster and Four dressed up as Sherlock!).

Today: My cold has gone from annoying starting symptoms on Thursday to full-blown AGH MY HEAD IT HURTS. So I'm forcing fluids, sneezing & blowing my nose a lot, and trying to take it easy. I'm going to the freaking OPERA on Wednesday and I refuse to be sick for that. And there's a free local scifi/fantasy con on Saturday that I won't miss for the world.
So naturally, I do what always makes me feel better (when I'm coherent) - knitting!
Enjoy the following picspam/commentary:

Look at me, I'm knitting a decorative vegetable!"
Took me about an hour or so? Incredibly pleased and I'm pinning this to whatever it is I wear to the convention.

Awesome looong colorful scarf! Alternate way to wear, which I prefer.
At least 8 feet long, and incredibly soft. Longer than RENT scarf, even, which is 6 feet. I finished this early this week and never got to show it off. I made two bands to go around the ends and I may pin them to be removable/moveable or sew them on permanently. Haven't decided. I also haven't decided on selling it - if I do (aka if anyone wants it), due to the cost of the yarn, the way it was made, and the fact that it took me 2-3 weeks to finish, it'll probably go for like around $30.

Alpaca-related Firefly fun in assassins chat!
I really wasn't kidding when I said I was off wrangling alpacas, guys. <3 Just realized later that that sounds incredibly Wash-like and would go overlooked.

Simon and Wash "arguing" about their assassination plots.
I swear, I think lias9 and I had way too much fun with the RPing. XD

picspam, knitting, life, i have the best friends ever, doctor who, books
