Sonic the Hedgehog has just been confirmed as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. So. Fucking. Hot.
Now, I've never been a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan; sure, I played the games as a kid, but I never owned a Genesis, and at the end of the day it all came down to Mario for me. Nonetheless, I realize how fantastic this is. For one, all the Sega fanboy and fangirls are wet in the pants right about now - this is the first time in ages their token blue beast will have appeared in a game that didn't totally suck. But more importantly, this represents the first time that Sega's mascot and Nintendo's mascot (the former competing kings of the video game industry) have ever been playable in the same game. Sure, we already knew they'd be meeting soon - in the upcoming
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, which does look promising... but at the end of the day, it's just a sports game, and not truly their element.
Okay, I think I'm done geeking for today. Between this and picking up Buffy: No Future For You, Issue Two and this month's copy of Out Magazine featuring John 'Captain Jack!' Barrowman, I've had my share of geekjoy.
