I am angry about the things going on in the Camarilla Fanclub right now. I've been getting progressively angrier and more frustrated as time goes on.
I'm angry that we got an MST out of the blue without any sort of all-call and that the MST we got happened to be the best friend of the person appointing her. Not only that, but NO explanation was given as to why this was done besides "I'm allowed to do this." It's shady. At least go through the appearance of not doing this and have an all-call.
I'm angry that the Cam cut Promethean and Mortals and isn't running a Hunter chronicle. In the last chron, you could play Mummy or Wraith or what-have-you (at least from what I understood at that time... I joined late in the last chronicle). Sure, cons didn't have them. Maybe there wasn't an ARST, ANST, AMST of those venues, but you could play them in the cam. This is the WHITE WOLF fan club. Not the "Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, and Changeling" fan club. Let us play all the games. Even if it's a small following.
I'm still peeved about ICC. I have recently found out that partly a certain person should NOT have said that they were still accepting bids for ICC 2009. I still feel like we should be given an apology. I do not like that the scraps we were thrown were "a mini regional" but I will accept that as better than nothing.
And most recently, I'm angry about this whole UK thing. I can't speak to the "other side" of this argument, because the other side has been stubbornly silent on this issue. However, from the UK side it sounds like a giant pile of bull shit. And what I'm MOST furious about is banning any discussion about this on official lists, etc.. You can talk about it on your private live journal. I'd encourage people to join the
camarilla_uk community to keep track of what' s going on there. There's an excellent post put up on behalf of Willie Pierce about how stupid the censorship is.
Here are my thoughts on the most recent thing that is making me angry:
- How DARE you tell us we can't talk about this and ban any discussion? You have now made it essentially against the rules to say goodbye over a public list to our friends in the UK AND for them to not say goodbye to us.
- When people DID do this, you made the list moderated. That's ridiculous. Talk about a temper tantrum.
- Speaking of temper tantrums and things that are sometimes mislabeled that way: What Dan and Michelle did is something I fully and completely support. I see it as a totally valid form of protest and NOT at all a tantrum. If I had something to pull down in protest, I would.
- Sure, the club director is at a convention. You're telling me that she didn't KNOW this was coming? According to our soon-to-be long lost UK brothers and sisters, she was the point person for this whole thing. She KNEW this was coming. She couldn't get a statement cleared through legal BEFORE she told them that negotiations were broken off? She's at a con IN THE CITY SHE LIVES IN and can't type something up? Ridiculous and unacceptable.
- Even beyond the "saying goodbye" sentiments, how DARE you treat us like children, telling us what we can and cannot say. This goes beyond "But she has the right to do that" and into the this should NOT have been done, ability to do so or not. No one was saying anything code of conduct violating. Sure, a few people were upset and saying things that disagreed with what happened, but no one was being insulting or nasty. It's becoming more and more draconian in here and I want out.
I'm not sure if I'm going to stay with this club. I would miss my friends, but I have found out recently that I would still be welcome in #mage-ooc on IRC so long as I don't suddenly go crazy and lose the ability to be a rational, thinking, civil human being. And I'm sure my friends wouldn't mind if I visited them on Sundays and fed them baked goods THAT way.
Oh, and this post has been left intentionally unlocked in case anyone wants to refer a friend to read this as well.
