"Cass, what are you doing here?" Steph asked, finding Cass at her front door, not surprisingly in her Batgirl costume.
"Hang out," Cass stated, grabbing Steph's hand. "Important."
Steph glanced back at her mom dead asleep on the couch before nodding and pulling her front door close behind her. "Cass, I know we never talked about-"
Cass turned around and held Steph's stare. "No need to. You are you, and I am me. Nothing's changed," she answered easily as she pulled on Steph's arm. "I have someone for you to meet."
"I'm out of the business now, you must know that," Steph stated as she followed Cass down the stair well to where there used to be a subway before the earthquake. "Tim he..."
"I know. What he said does not matter anymore," Cass stated as they climbed into the ruined subway tunnels.
"You know that's not true," Steph answered back uneasily as she climbed down after Cass. "Where are we heading?"
"To meet someone who will train you," Cass answered as she headed toward some abandoned trains. "He... Nightwing and Robin will not approve of him."
Steph stopped, making Cass turn around to look at her curiously. "Cass, who are we meeting?"
"Batman," Cass stated, but her voice was not the only one to say it.
Steph automatically fell into a defensive stance, looking around for where the voice that joined Cass' came from. "You won't find me until I want to be found, blondie," the voice said from all around her, obviously on speakers.
Steph's eyes narrowed at nothing. "Really? And you think you're Batman? Well, I think you can shove it!" she shouted, turning to Cass and grabbing her hand. "Cass, he's not who you think he is."
Cass stood her ground. "He is who I think he is." She paused, glaring at a set of shadows. "Jason Todd, come out. Now."
When he did step out of the shadows, Steph was shocked. For a moment, before she noticed the differences in the costume, Steph thought it was really Batman coming from the shadows. No, a new Batman, she guessed, and on that Cass approved of, it seemed.
"Cass, you don't seem to understand that Batgirl does not order around Batman," Jason growled beneath his full face mask.
Steph chuckled which earned her a glowy eyed glare from Jason which just made her put her hands up in defense, innocently. "Batman-in-training," Cass stated, her stance just daring Jason to say something against her statement.
Jason just shook his head. "All right sure, we'll play this your way," he said to Cass before moving to walk circles around Steph. "So, what is she, Robin-in-training?"
"Hey!" Steph protested, moving away from Jason. "I had Robin training!"
"Robin-in-training again," Cass stated, before taking Steph's hand. "New Batcave, for training."
Steph blinked as she followed Cass through the subway car and into Jason's Batcave. "Oh wow," she gasped as she looked around before looking back at Jason who had followed them in. "You did all this without Dick and Tim knowing?"
Though she couldn't see it, Steph just knew Jason was smirking. "Yes, with a bit of help from Cass." He paused. "So, every Batman needs a Robin. Be my Robin?"
"You don't beat around the bush," she muttered as Cass squeezed her hand, urging her to say yes.
"I like getting to the point of the matter," Jason answered. "You know Dick and Tim. Dick won't become Batman in time to save Gotham, and Tim's just too short."
"Tim is not prepared to take the mantle," Cass added, ignoring Jason's jab at Tim's height as a factor.
Steph snorted. "Okay, you're right about Dick, I guess, and Tim is kinda short..." she trailed off before putting her hand to Jason. "All right, you have yourself a Robin."
Jason pulled down the grate and pulled back his cowl, showing Steph a tooth grin. "Welcome aboard," he said, taking her hand and shaking it firmly.
