Title: Coincidence
Fandom: DCU
Character(s): Kyle Rayner, Connor Hawke
Pairing(s): Connor/Kyle
Word Count: 599
Genre: general/romance
Rating: PG/K+
Notes: Written for pervyficgirl at my DCU Kissing Meme. The prompt was apologies, though it went a little awry. I planned for apologies for Kyle being off-planet when Connor got hurt, but no dice. It turned out well I think. First time writing Kyle and second time writing Connor. Takes place in current canon, though a little hand-wavy with GLC canon.

Kyle was not exactly sure what he was doing back on Earth. OA had been crazy as of late, but after hearing speeches on love and such from the Star Sapphire, he wanted to come home to visit people he loved. He knew many of those people were gone, but he could at least visit their graves. Donna was still alive, or at least, alive again. He had not really talked to her after the trip through the multiverse.

Just thinking about the multiverse trip made him cringe as he let his ring switch him into his civilian clothing, moving onto the sidewalk. He wanted some sort of perspective that he was sure he could not get on OA. With his head elsewhere as he walked, Kyle should not have been surprised when he ran into someone.

“Ah, sorry, I wasn't...” Kyle trailed off when he saw who he bumped. “Connor!”

Connor looked up at him as Kyle offered him a hand up. “Man, what are you doing on the east coast?” Kyle asked as Connor grasped his hand and pulled himself up.

“I-” he paused. “I think we should talk somewhere more private. I have an apartment just around the corner.”

Kyle followed, immediately feeling like something was off. He had been off-planet so long, but could Connor have changed so much that Kyle barely recognized him? The question ran through Kyle's mind until they made it inside Connor's apartment.

“Would you like anything to drink?” Connor asked politely, but Kyle shook his head.

“No, I'm good,” Kyle answered, moving closer to Connor to put a hand on his shoulder. “Are you okay? You seem different. I know I've been off-planet a while but-”

“No, you're right. I am different, Kyle,” Connor stated as he collapsed into an armchair. “I remember your name, I remember who you are, but you say you've been gone a while, and that's not ringing any bells with me.”

Kyle furrowed his brows as he sat on the couch nearest to Connor's seat. “What do you mean?”

“It's a long story, but I have, essentially, amnesia. I remember my friends and family, but not the much of the time I spent with them. The feelings are there, but the memories aren't. I don't even know who I am, really. I know I'm Connor Hawke, but I have no idea what that means. I know I was Green Arrow, but the funny thing is now I can't even hit a target.” Connor paused. “Did that make any sense?”

Kyle stayed quiet for a moment. “Why do I get the feeling this is the first time you've really voiced all of this?”

Connor bit his lip as he sat up straighter in the armchair. “I had this conversation with my father, but I never voiced everything,” he said with a frown. “I don't remember, but I feel like he would not have understood. It's different with you, Kyle.”

Kyle blinked in surprise. “Really? How?”

Connor looked thoughtful for a moment before standing up and sitting on the coffee table in front of Kyle, knees almost touching. “I feel as though I can say or do anything, and you won't judge me,” he answered softly before reaching his hand to Kyle's cheek and pulling him in for a kiss.

Kyle's eyes widened in shock before he let them slide close as he kissed back. Connor had been right; Kyle would not judge him or begrudge Connor anything, especially not a kiss. Maybe Kyle had more people on Earth that he loved than he had originally thought.
