“I told you to keep tabs on Matt, did I not?”
“Yes, you did sir.”
“Then where is he?”
“...”
“Gevanni, have you lost Matt?”
“Yes... I’m sorry, sir.”
Near placed the last card on his small card tower, making it topple. The shuffling of cards was all Gevanni needed to hear to know Near was irritated by this turn of events. “Did he lose you, or are you just incompetent?” Near asked into his headpiece as he began a new tarot card tower.
Gevanni winced at Near harsh words. “He received a text message and suddenly took off,” Gevanni reported into his cell. “There was no warning, so I had no time to catch up with him. He seemed to be in quite a hurry.”
Near pondered for a moment. “Hack his cell phone. Find out what the text message says. It must have been the reason he took off so quickly,” Near said as he stood add another card to his growing tarot tower.
“Yes, sir,” Gevanni said as the phone went dead, signaling that Near had ended the call.

“You have the message, I would hope.”
“Yes. It said: ‘Meet me in Nagano, you know the place.’” Gevanni paused. “That narrows the search to Nagano, but Nagano is a rather large place...”
“...I know where he is. Thank you, Gevanni.”
The line went dead, and Gevanni sighed. His boss had strange way of saying goodbye at the end of calls.

“Near, are you sure you want to go alone?”
“...I am not a child, nor am I an invalid,” Near stated as he slipped on some shoes and grabbed keys to a car he barely used.
“I know that, but...” Hal trailed off, not having any reason that Near would except to stop him from leaving alone. She just had an overwhelming mothering instinct when it came to Near.
“I will be back, but I am not sure when, exactly,” Near said as he shrugged on a coat before turning to Hal. “I expect that you and Rester will be fine alone, without knocking over my tarot card towers. If I return to find them fallen, I will be very cross.”
Hal laughed nervously as the genius left without another word.

When Near reached his destination, he paused before knocking. He heard sounds from behind the door, so he knew he had not came all this way for naught, but... He may be inexperienced in such ventures, but Near understood what was going on beyond the door. Did he really want to interrupt that? ...yes, he really did. He knocked and kept knocking until the door opened. The angry blond had answered, like Near had predicted. Near would enjoy the next few hours, whether it be a meeting of the minds or if by the off chance (only 10 percent chance, actually) he would get to taste of what he had interrupted by his knocking.
