It was probably stupid and vain and stupid that he wanted this surgery, but since he started talking to Roy again after joining the JSA, Grant had felt a bit better about himself. Not enough to be comfortable with his face, but when Roy had casually mentioned a Wayne Foundation branch that could help him out, he was hard pressed to say no.

So Grant had agreed to it, and this was to be his last surgery. He still hadn't looked at the changes from stage to stage, and he didn't let anyone but the doctors see either. Lian had tried to take a peek, but Roy had grabbed her before she could. She said sorry later with a kiss to his bandaged up forehead, and all had been forgiven.

Now, the last surgery was over, and Grant was blearily blinking his eyes open to see a blur of red in a chair by his bed. He blinked a few more times, seeing Roy more clearly. When Roy noticed he was awake, he gave Grant a blinding smile.

"Hey," he murmured. "You're awake."

"Yeah," Grant croaked. "You weren't here...all night, right?"

"Nope," Roy chirped, then grinned. "All night AND most of the morning, too."

Grant groaned, closing his eyes. He was very much glad his cheeks couldn't been seen. He knew he had to blushing. Then felt a press of lips against his, and his eyes snapped open in shock.

"What was that for...?" Grant asked quietly.

Roy smiled softly. "Just my way of saying I'll still be here, no matter what," he replied.

Grant's breath caught at that and nodded. "I'll remember that..." he murmured.

"Good because it won't change, no matter what you look like under those bandages," he stated firmly. "I'm going to call Lian and tell her your awake. Mind if she comes to visit?"

"You know I don't mind," Grant replied, smile in his eyes. "Go ahead."

Roy stole another kiss before ducking out to make the phone call. Grant let out a deep breath and felt happy for the first time in a while, and it finally hit him that it wasn't his face that he needed back. No, he just needed someone to say what Roy had said. That had been all it really took.
