(Yes, I'm filling my own request, SHHH)

Tradition

"Da!" Rex bounced, trying to escape John's tight hold, "Time now? Time now!" The toddler insisted, squirming around to pout. "Now," he whined.

John sigh ruefully and pulled the quilt tighter around he and his son while they sat on the church lawn. It was tradition to watch the Christmas play, but this was the first time they'd been mad enough to try it with a two year old.

"Momma now?" Rex pushed again, popping his head out from the warm caccoon.

"Not yet, little guy," John said, tickling his son with a smile. "What did I tell you about being patient?"

"No! No 'tatent! Now!" Rex squealed happily, dark corkscrew curls flying around his head. "Now, now, now!"

John laughed and tackled the little boy, blanket in hand, and wrapped him up, holding him close. "Shhh," he calmed, "it's now."

Rex nodded and whispered, "Kay." as the narrarator came out.

The lawn was filled with raptured faces, and as the angel of the lord spoke to Mary, Rex leaned back into his father and whispered, "Momma pwetty."

"She sure is." John smiled. White suited her.

(If you didn't get it, Shayara was playing Gabriel in the Christmas play. I'm feeling shmoopsy!)
