drink, or don't drink, to your health!

This is actually a reply I posted in my friend Becky's journal. (I was gonna link to it, but it's locked). She was talking about being on a health kick, and how the changes were really starting to work. By the time I finished typing this reply, I figured I may as well share it with everyone and see what their thoughts on the subject were. I focused ( Read more... )

I'm totally with ya on the water thing. I don't know how or why I did it, but I hardly ever drink soda anymore either. I remember being a kid going out to dinner with my parents, and i'd almost always get a soda to drink. I think perhaps as I got older, I didn't want to spend the extra $2 on a drink, plus it started getting too sweet for me.

I remember being at Culvers once, with my deliciously greasy meal, and thinking, God, how could I eat all this and then wash it down with liquid sugar? The thought was just disgusting to me. I now pretty much never get a soda especially with fast food, and absolutely never get it at a sit down restaurant.

Every once in a while I will have a soda for caffiene purposes like Pernell said, but that's few and far between. If I need to really stay away or alert I'll just have a sugar free energy drink, or coffee if possible. Kevin's cousin, who I've gotten to know in the past year, drinks at least 5 cans of Mt. Dew in 1 day. Hell, it could even be more. He's overweight of course, and if he just stopped with the soda it'd be insane how much weight he'd lose. Of course he's stubborn and won't listen to anyone.

As for alcohol, I haven't been 'absolutely shit faced' in a long ass time~ the only time I think I can say I did that was a trip to U of I in 2004. I've been drunk since then, yeah, but no where near as close as that. I enjoy drinking when its with friends and the drinks aren't too expensive. I know my limits and know the consequences if I end up drinking too much. It's an absolutely horrible feeling the next day if you overdo it, and I'd rather not relive that.

And oh yeah! Reality TV! I've been watching Rock of Love with Bret Michaels which is awesome, and also on VH1. And the So you think you can dance finale is on tonight! Don't know if you watch that one but I'm addicted =P

I totally agree with what you said above. That's always my philosophy, too. After eating a greasy meal, full of calories, why throw more fuel onto the fire? At least with the food, the calories are more worthwhile... because they nourish and/or fill you up. But the pop is just empty calories, purely for taste. And definitely a waste a money, yikes. At most fast food places, for the cost of a drink, I could just get another sandwich instead.

I used to go through five pops a day like that, for a period during highschool and then again for a period later in life. I dunno how I did it, and I'm surprised I'm not in a diabetic coma to this day. We always yell at our one friend Chris (from Indiana) for all the pop he still drinks. He's a big guy, too, and so that is likely to be a part of it. Metabolism slows down once we get to our age (mid-twenties) so it goes to reason.

The one show I REALLY wanna see, which I think is also on VH1, is called something like "Operation Man Band." It's a group composed of one former member from five different "boy bands," trying to make it past their prime. And of course, the ones from Nsync (Chris) and 98 Degrees (Jeff) are not the frontrunners from those groups, which is nice because they deserve a little more credit.

So You Think You Can Dance is super-addictive, although I haven't kept up with it very well. I was pleasantly surprised at how far the B-Boy and B-Girl went this year. And damn, as is no surprise, the girls on that show are beautiful beyond words. Same for most of the guys, actually. Hot stuff all around ^_^
