Fit and Yaris

Finally, automakers are starting to market the kinds of cars I like in the US - small, gas consumption concious cars that don't sacrifice features and power for the sake of economy. Cars like they offer in Europe where small does not necessarily mean cheap and economy. Yay! It looks like the Jetta and Golf might still be better for mileage and ( Read more... )

I get tired of U.S. manufacturers trying to pass off 30-38 MPG as great gas mileage for a car. That sucks! SUVs should currently be getting that. Regular cars should be getting at least 50.

That's true. My full size sedan '93 accord gets 33 HMPG. I don't see why these newer, smaller, less powered cars can't do better. But for vehicles that could pass US crash tests (which are much stricter than elsewhere I believe), are there cars in other countries that do much better w/out sacrificing acceleration power?

I think VW do well and i really wanted one, but damn they are pricy bitches! I am kinda hoping gas prices will force U.S. car makers to change their wasteful ways. We HAVE the technology currently to get 100 MPG (so i hear) but oil lobbies keep science from pushing forwards. I feel like we live in the f-ing dark ages.

I don't think we have that technology or Europe would be using it already. At least, I don't think we have that technology while maintaining today's road safety standards and keeping good acceleration and speed abilities.
