finally bought a dehumidifier yesterday. they cost a bit (the smallest, which we got, was 160), but it definitely is helping. they claim that it is silent, or quiet enough to be in the living area with you when running. that is bull. this thing is louder than a huge room fan. it is so noisy ;P. luckily, once we get the house down to a good humidity, we don't have to run it all the time. i bought a hose for it, and apparently didn't put it on quite tight enough last night, so the tank almost got full (it turns itself off when that happens, so it's not the end of the world) that's a bit of moisture, considering it was one drip at a time. even with the drain into the sink last night (so i don't know how much came out), we have still gotten almost 2.5 tanks worth of water out of the air in the house in less than 24 hours o_O. sheesh. 410 watts... that's going to add up on the pg&e bill...
carrying over 30 pounds of food in a flat box all the way across the parking lot at costco (and into another parking lot) brought back memories. the main difference being the memories were in the middle of the night when it was cool, and the present was in the middle of the day, hot, and too sunny ;P.
--shintojuunana, she who had the stupid loud thing behind her right now so it can work in the living room.
