Hayate absently walked along the bank of a sparkling clear river, kicking a stone into the water before pushing his hands deeper into the pockets of his blue jeans. Leafunia surrounded him on every side and eased his mood out of the dark brooding state he'd been in since the previous night. Rolling up the long sleeves of his soft grey shirt, he

Okay, so it sounded too much like running to suit him. Sasame...Takako...Why now?
"We haven't said three words since Himeno healed us all. Takako...the same."
Kei was quiet for a moment; because that was true. Perhaps they'd all been doing a little sidestepping with the matter, and perhaps he himself couldn't quite avoid blame in that either. Nevertheless, no matter whose fault it was that the silence and avoidance had dragged on for so long, he was determined to do something about it now, and that meant the problem would be resolved, one way or another. Kei had never contented himself with doing anything halfway.
"Then isn't it about time we got it out into the open?" he countered, raising his eyebrow as he took the softly bubbling soup off the fire and placed it in the grass to let it cool for a bit. "You can't avoid them forever, Hayate--Sasame's already understood that, to a degree, and that's why he's back with us for the moment. I'd have thought you would understand it as well." Of course, he knew that it might appear a little different to Hayate; being the one betrayed and hurt the most by Sasame's actions. But from Kei's vantage point, Sasame and Hayate weren't all that different. At least where circumstances were concerned.
"I know I can't avoid him forever," Hayate snapped, "I wasn't trying."
He plopped onto the grass and sipped his soda, staring in the direction of the trees. The calm, peaceful air underneath the green leaves soothed him but didn't lift his mood. It was far too gone for anything to help. With a sigh, he finally resolved to at least play nice for the kid's sake. "I'll be nice," he offered through gritted teeth.
Hayate had thought long and hard about everything. He knew full well where blame and failure rested in this situation, not for everything but enough. Quietly, he looked to Kei fully and flicked his fingers along the edge of the can. "Don't expect miracles, Kei. You can't fix everything."
"None of us were," Kei pointed out, trying to make Hayate see that he wasn't truly targeting him in particular... Well, maybe he was. But only to a certain degree, and it seemed justified so far.
Remembering his soda upon seeing Hayate drink from his, Kei took a brief drink before looking up at Hayate's grudging concession. "That will suffice," he offered. For the moment. "Thank you."
"Don't expect miracles, Kei. You can't fix everything."
Maybe so... but I can damn well try. After a moment's hesitation, the blond came over to sit beside Hayate--not close enough that he might be invading the other's personal space, but not far enough that the other could pretend not to hear what he was saying. "I can't pretend to understand your feelings, Hayate. However..." He paused, running thoughtful fingers through his golden hair. "We are the Knighthood of the Leafe. If we can't work together, we will not be able to help the Pretear in times of need--say, in case of a new threat, should there be one." He looked up, trying to gauge if Hayate was absorbing what he was trying to tell him.

When Kei came over to invade his personal bubble, Hayate glared at him but didn't inch away. He was fairly certain Kei was going to make a point, one way or another. Listening and downing the rest of his soda fast enough to fill fizz burning down the back of his throat, Hayate crushed the can and tossed it in the general direction of the small trash bag they'd brought along. "I know, Kei. Sasame deserted the Knighthood." He left all of us behind and everything he vowed. Every last thing.
Taking a slow breath, he met Kei's gaze, "When the time comes, we'll all work together. My vows and duties as a Leafe Knight will not be forgotten."
