this entry is about volleyball
Alright. I enjoy playing volleyball. I really do, especially in gym. It's fun, and if you're having a really good day you can hit people you don't like with the ball. Good times.
But.
The really very agitating thing about gym volleyball is the girl stereotype. The one that makes every boy on one's team automatically think that because one is a girl, that the first reaction to a volleyball flying towards her is going to be "scream and cower." No.
Personally, and at risk of sounding as though I have a questionable amount of sanity, I don't really care if a ball hits me in the face. It's happened before. You get over it. It's not like you've just done a faceplant onto a land mine and now you're either dead or permanently disfigured. No! It hits you, hurts for about 2 minutes, you have a bruise, it goes away, life goes on.
So that opinion, coupled with the fact that I do so love to win things, plus my beastly bumping abilities, does not leave much tolerance for 7 foot tall basketball playing senior boys who think they're cool who will jump in front of a girl from across the court to hit the ball she totally has!!! JUST BECAUSE SHE'S A GIRL AND OMG SHE'S GOING TO SCREAM AND CRY AND OH NOOOOES!!
No. Random lanky-ass poser upperclassmen losers, get out of my fucking way. I will hit the ball and then you can feel free to spike that ball into someone's face to your testosterone-filled heart's content.
