WOOOOOOOOOOOOO OT GROUP III (?) STATE CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!
YEAH BIG RED!! :DDDDDD
final score, 41-20, Nottingham loses. ha ha.
well this morning started off with me waking up fifteen minutes before i had to be at the band room. yeeeah, go me.
got dressed in record time, and then i zoomed my dad and myself over to the school. i think i also changed in record time, lol. i just win today.
so we go, get on the bus, woo, yay. long bus ride consisting of hella boringness. wooo. the bus occasionally made weird noises. XD
so we get to rutgers and everyone's like "OMG HELLA COLD" and kate zimmerman was like ";-; how am i going to get all the way to the bottom? *crippled*" and james is like "wtf are you talking about, we're on ground level!" and then we were all like no. then james had his first non-high school football stadium experience. it was really amusing. OMG THE BLEACHERS HAD LIKE BACKS TO THEM. AHHHH SO....classy. ha ha idk. i'm so....band. :P
then we watched the teams warming up on the field, and we were sitting right in front of the nottingham team, so emily kept yelling things at the players. "HEY NUMBER 38, SHOULDN'T YOU BE AT SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING?" "NICE BALLET MOVES!!" and then she chose number 7 as her special case, lmao.
so then it was time to do the show. of course in the stands it wasn't that cold; we were all squished next to each other, wearing rain coats and having handwarmers and in my case crazy ass warm gloves and a scarf, but we couldn't wear that on the field that GUSTED WIND LIKE EVERY TWO SECONDS. and we couldn't have our flipfolders during the show, but we needed to have the star spangeled banner, so.....kevin tried to make kate and me shove our folders in our jackets, but being band uniforms that basically means IN OUR PANTS. kate decided that if it would only stay she could probably take a bullet, and declared how square her chest was, lol. eventually we were just like "fuck that" and stuck it on the lyres. :P then we went out...marching....and my fingers hurt like hell. seriously, they weren't numb, it felt more like.............MY BLOOD WAS FREEZING OMGWTF. it hurt hella bad. so i was having trouble playing. cough, understatement, cough. so i think we probably sucked ass. kevin actually dropped out of formation before the nat'l. anthem because he wasn't feeling well. WEAKLING. >:P so then we star spangled banner'd it up and we all really wanted to sprint back into the stands. then there was getting warm again, and the game started and stuff, and we played music. and whenever number 7 came onto the field emily would be like "YEAH NUMBER SEVEN! I SEE YOU!!" and great stuff like that. :) we scored like 4 times in the first two quarters. the one side of the clarinet section was being lame as usual and not dancing, but the AWESOME HALF was all dancing and swinging horns and yelling hxc. ^^ we got the crack addict flutes to dance, even. XD and antonia lost the screw thing for the top of her flute. :o
(btw, :( i think something happened to carly, cause i saw her talking to her dad looking really upset and stuff, but i don't know what's going on. \: i hope she's ok.)
big red was rill sweet, and nottingham hadn't scored once by half time. the other band marched really well (they had a ray charles show....good times freshman year, i guess :P), but their poor flags/dance team. the flags had boas which kept blowing away while they tried to set them up, then the dancers' pom poms blew across the fields. they looked like tumbleweeds. XD "we have a winner!! look at that blue one go!!" <- thank you kevin ging. so then we hobbled up to the concession stands (no ones knees/feet really felt like working :P) and danielle got me food because i'm a lame ass who forgot money on the bus. gah. apparently the funnel cake was really gross. d: then we hobbled back down to the stands (they were playing mr. brightside on the speakers :DDD) and got our instruments back together. we did the wave and yelled things. nottingham scored once or twice.
random highlights:
"he was so close!! if there was a pie in the end zone, he could've eaten it!!"
- emily on chris chittum's run down the field right before getting tackled a yard from the goal line
"if only there was just SLIGHTLY LESS FRICTION!!"
- yeah that's me. same situation as above. --;
"YEAH O!! THAT'S HOW WE DO!!"
- emily's catchphrase whenever ocean scored
"THAT IS NOT HOW WE DO!!"
- reu's reaction to nottingham's first TD. XDD
then, in the fourth quarter, a miracle happened.
WE PLAYED THE HEY SONG.
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!! XDD oh, good times. we owned it. we owned it so bad. because soldo was like, "bass drums, if you don't know it, then STFU." only not in those exact words. :33 but, we win. mua ha ha.
:/ it was very sad thinking about how it was the last game for the seniors this year. tear.
but damn they went out with a bang. 41-20, Big Red triumphant. :) everyone was so psyched, the team was jumping on each other and yelling and all that, and we left the stadium going "BIG RED! BIG RED! BIG RED!" all the way out to the parking lot. then we got on the bus and we regained our sanity for a very uneventful bus ride home......at least until we crossed into OT on 18. then we pulled over to the side of the road and met our escorts for our VICTORY LAP AROUND OCEAN. omg, it was crazy. every single emergency vehicle ocean has was leading us down route 18 to rt. 66, through colonial terrace to wickapecko, down corlies to monmouth and down west park to the high school, sirens blaring, horns blasting, people yelling out the windows of every bus, and of the cars that had joined in. everyone knew we had won. it was amazing. when we pulled up to the high school they had the two oakhurst FD ladder trucks parked on either side of the driveway with the ladders making an arch over the buses, and people standing in the parking lot and the road hollering and cheering. it was adorable, amazing, exhilarating. then they all swamped the football team's buses and the band just kind of pulled up to The Tree and we all got out and changed and all that jazz. i wasn't planning on going to applebee's or anything at first, but jenny and reu needed a ride since erin's dad brought the wrong car XD, so i was like, sure i'll go. then my dad took 40 minutes to get there because "he had to stop for gas." sigh. but the 10 of us (reu, jenny, erin, kim, james, danielle, kate zimmerman, jackie and jenn - yes, the frosh flutes, don't ask me why, i have no idea) went to the ocean applebee's and just hung out, and it really wasn't that bad. :) good times, guys.
so, in summary:
FUCK YES OCEAN! THAT'S HOW WE DO!!! XD
school spirit kicks your ass. :3 happy 20 something days till xmas.
