I have a map quiz in my early christianity class in like fifteen minutes. what this means is I have learned a lot about rivers and mountain ranges in Europe and the near east in the past day or so. What has this taught me? It's taught me to say FUCK the Black Sea, man, too many fucking rivers right next to each other that all start with D. Danube, Don, Drava, Desna, and this is the worst, Dniestr and Dnieper. Like, really??? Let's be a little more original here, people.

I have also learned a lot about Turkey. Including new AND ancient/Roman names for things. Which is confusing. It's sort of embarassing to admit how little I know about Eastern Europe/Asia Minor/the area between the Black and Caspian Seas considering I think of my self as a know-it-all geography dork. But now I know! I just need to remember about the Pindus, Dinaric Alps, Carpathian and Caucasus mountain ranges and where exactly they go and where the Danube/Don/Volga/Ural/Sava/Drava/Dniestr/Dnieper Rivers fit in there. Western Europe I've got down I think.

Also, fuck the Barbarians going like twelve different directions and having similar names. Though I like to say "OSTROGOTHS" a lot. I want to start a band just so we can be called the Ostrogoths.

The problem with learning the geography of central/eastern Europe in the context of early christian history though still means that I have no idea where any of those freaking former soviet states actually are. Okay Ukraine is the big one right next to the Black Sea and Albania is in between Italy and Greece where Voldemort hangs out. Other than that, I can't differentiate any of those squiggly lines until I hit, like, Poland. DON'T WORRY I'M WORKING ON IT.

This was my thoughts on Europe and now I am going to go take this quiz and hope I remember where Nicaea and Adrianople are supposed to be and I don't accidentally send the Ostrogoths to Spain. Then I hope I am going to go make some brownies.

(PS my birthday was nice, thank you. :) )

EDIT: I KICKED SO MUCH ASS. I was the last one there by like, 20 minutes hahaa but I DAZZLED my professor. DAZZLED. I AM KATIE-MANDIUS, QUEEN OF QUEENS! Look upon my map skillz, ye mighty, and despair! Haha I am a dork.
