WHAT I LIKED A bit of our world's history being put into the mix. Not too shabby. Have to say, I was a bit uncomfortable with the Nazi swastikas en masse.
Making the society uncomfortable about gypsies and how the economic situation was etc. was interesting. Was partially miffed that Officer Hughes fell into that bandwagon. But hey, he's a German officer in an age when after the Traité de Versailles was signed Germany was all on edge I suppose.
Fritz Lang. 'Nuff said. Best character in the movie.
Showing the collective coup and coversion of alot of people to follow Nazism was interesting too.
Roy the snowman. That was cool. I was laughing like mad when that happened...Guess Roy's a master of the art of stealth. He should've gone through the Gate and moved to Canada *shot*
Havoc continuously taking shots at the Colonel's demotion throughout the entire movie.
WHAT I HATED
Hughes as a nazi. Okay, I have to admit, I saw it coming but I hated it and thought that (which is what happens in most Nazi-centred movies) Hughes would be a Nazi soldier for a while, realize the wrongs with the Nazis, try and do somehting good and end up probably coming out of it barely alive. OR, I thought they could've taken it differently and have him act as an insider and have him report to Ed et al about invasions and suchnot and then maybe get killed or horribly injured and miraculously survive.
(Yes, yes...I know...but, I think it would've brought some of his character from before in...But I guess the Writers were trying to keep up the whole "In Our World, everyone from the Hagaren World is the opposite" theme. Save, that theme didn't stick for Gracia. I dunno...Just to see Hughes' mad 'espionage' skillz would've made the movie much more exciting. *bricked*)
Okay, you know what, when Ed and Al reunited (the second time) they could've done better IMO. It was like: Winry: "OMG ED! *hug*" Al: "Hey." I dunno. It just felt bland to me.
I CRIED WHEN
Uhm, when Hohenheim kinda died (albeit Kill Bill-esque with the blood...then again, KB was more of a live-action anime IMO)
When Wrath died. WTF that was bloody.
When Hughes was like, hiding and he comes out to profess his love to Gracia. Me: EEE~ X3 *bricks self*
UH...WTF?
GLUTTONY?....So I guess Dantyla died...
IZUMI FREAKING DIED?~?!?!?!??!?!??!?!!!!!! WHAAAAAAT?!
....that's freaking stupid. T_T
How'd Karl Haushoffer go from crazed "Let's go to Shambala!" to "Oh shit, this is WRONG. Stop Dertlinde!*shot*"? That was just...wierd.
Hilter was killed? Interesting twist on WOrld History...that is, if the subs were lying (Some were off) but they implied that the uprising failed and when Haushoffer was all "Is he okay" the officer I think said he didn't make it.
Mind, Hilter dying sounded like it was pulled out of an AU-Nazi movie almost like Fatherland which is IMHO is SUPERB. It takes place after WWII. There was an agreement with the Allies and the Axis and Hilter is an old, old, old dude. The world is under the impression, since they signed a treaty, that Germany stopped their torchers and discrimination and suchnot. One Nazi officer who works with the Investigation Bureau (like Hughes), in a nutshell (because a bunch of otther stuff lead to this) he gets suspicious and a Reporter from I think Canada explains to him that something's up and he explains to her the more he investigates the matter that Germany is still killing and testing people and such and violating the treaty the more in trouble they'll get. I know one guy confirms what the reporter tells him and gets killed (He didn't believe her).
Basically after that, it's ala ep 25. He does infact have a child who rats him out to other Nazi soldiers (accidently. I think he was told to say if anything was wrong with his dad...I dunno) and they escape and the Officer tries to call the reporter. (forget where the kid goes) It's dark, it's raining and he goes a phone box and tries to call her. He doesn't get her and the other Nazi soldiers kill him ep-25-style and is left to die.
Meanwhile, the US is visiting to sign a deal with Germany (economic) and someone, the reporter has the pictures of the torcher still going on and she passes it to the President and looks, realizes "WTF DEY LIE!" and orders his car to turn around or something.
Yeha....what was I talking about? Oh yeah! I think in Fatherland Hilter like falls from power after the US cancels their treaty thingy and the world finds out that the Nazis are still doing what they did before and during WWII and Hitler dies from a heart attack and the Reporter (who looked like she was getting close to the Officer) takes in his son...I think. I'll have to find that movie someday. It was a good movie o_o;.
THE OPENING
I have to admit the Opening graphics were great. Using all the DVD covers (Both back and front) was great. Have to say I was all "EEE! DVD COVER 5!!!" when the image spread for DVD 5 was shown. *fails* I know.
A-And, the quality of the AMV-isness of it was great. Like, the footage from the anime fit with the moments of the song it was shown in. Especially Hughes' final moments. Not my most favorite moment, or anyone's, but as he fell it worked perfectly with the song. As did the DVD-cover spreads.
OVERALL....
It wasn't a SPECTACULAR movie but it was good. It was AU...in it's own way...Just with the whole "Using Hagaren characters as pseudos for real-world figures" thing.
There were just some moments that felt, off. But maybe with a non-shoddy cam-rip and so-so subs I'll like it more.
Come on January 26th...
Did I mention I thought post-post-Gate!Dertlinde was going to kill Officer Hughes? >_>;
Oh and my love for the song Kelas! grew so much more. xD
Yeah, what? O_o;
HOCKEY
I'll post about it tomorrow. =X
