I was walking on my way to Ha Jae’s house. She asked all of us - her friends, to be there for some meeting I don’t know. I walked past the park on our town - the park that has a special place in my heart. It has always been so important to me. Snowflakes started to fall, reminding me of something that happened 2 years ago. It was the same time of the year at the same place. A special place.
*FLASHBACK*
It was the weekend. Ha Jae and I were supposed to meet and go shopping but she called me earlier and told me that she couldn’t come so I just decided to stay at home and rest for the whole day.
I was drifting off to sleep when suddenly I felt my phone vibrating on my pocket, indicating that someone is calling. I grabbed the gadget and looked at the caller ID. It says Soobear. Well, Soohyun’s name on my phone is Soobear but only Ha Jae and I know about it.
I hurriedly stood up from my bed and fixed myself as if Soohyun is in front of me. I took a deep breath and answered the call with all willingness.
“Yeoboseyo?” I tried hard for my voice to sound normal and I guess I succeeded.
“A-aah… Hyo Sun-ah, can we meet today?” Soohyun said while he obviously stutters.
“Hey, are you fine?” I asked him with so much worry.
“How do I say? Uh… 1pm, okay?”
“Hmm relax okay? See you.” With that, we both hung up the phone. I smiled widely and squealed a little with the thought that I’ll be seeing him again, the man of my dreams, though we see each other often.
I dressed up quickly because I was so excited to see Soohyun. Yes, it is Soohyun. I don’t call him oppa even though he is years older than me. It’s because he refuses being called oppa by me. He said that he feels awkward and asked me to drop the formalities between us. I’m actually glad that he asked me to do that coz I do feel awkward too everytime I call him oppa.
As I got out of our house, I walked faster than I could because I was running a little late. We may be rich but I prefer walking going to a nearby place than riding my car. Sometimes, I use my bicycle, but not this time.
“Have you been waiting for so long?” I asked Soohyun as I got on where he was. He noticed that I was panting a little so he led me to a bench on the park where we were now.
“Yah… It’s been 13 minutes now since 1pm. You’re late.”
“And liars go to hell.” I strongly stated after I crinkled my nose. And we both chuckled at that.
“It’s so beautiful.” I commented on the snow falling as I collected some of it in my hands.
“Yeah, it is.” Soohyun then did the same thing that I was doing.
“Uhm. By the way, why did you ask to meet me today?”
“Well… I wanted to talk to you about something and I hope that you’ll listen up until to the very last word I’ll say.” He suddenly got a little serious this time which made me curious and alarmed. I was wondering what was going on in his mind.
“Okay… Go ahead.”
I could feel that he was hesitating a bit if he would tell me whatever he is planning. But in the end, he managed to spill it out.
“Before anything else… Hyo Sun, will you promise me that you’ll wait for me?”
“Y… Yes.” I said as my voice cracked a little. I felt ashamed but it wasn’t a time for that. Why was Soohyun asking me that? Is he going away?
“Hyo Sun~ah, I got a scholarship on one of the prestigious medical schools of Korea.”
“That’s great. I’m really happy for you.” I gave him a warm smile but he was still wearing a frown. Wae? Did I do something wrong?
“But the school’s in Seoul and I have to stay there while I study.” I felt sad after he said that but I have to be happy for him. Besides, who am I to not let him pursue his dreams, right? Without knowing, the words ‘it’s okay’ left my mouth and I simply smiled at him.
Next thing I knew is that Soohyun was already hugging me tight. I felt like my bones were going to break. But I don’t care. I stayed where I was and as I heard him speak, tears started to form in my eyes.
“I will be back as soon as I can. And we’ll keep in touch, okay?” I just nodded and we stayed like that for a couple more minutes.
We spent the day enjoying each other’s company. Besides, this will be the last time that we got to spend with each other before he goes to Seoul and pursue his dreams.
Before it gets late, we decided to go home. Soohyun walked me to our house and as we walked, our hands were intertwined, which made us both blush but we just let it be. Finally, we arrived in front of our house but I was kinda sad because I had to say goodbye to him.
It was silent for a while, not until Soohyun broke it.
“I… I have to go now. Besides, you already need to rest.”
“Okay. Take care on your way home.” Just then I felt arms around me for the second time this day. I didn’t intend to struggle out of it. Not now and not ever. I just hugged back the person in front of me. I felt secured.
“I love you.” Soohyun whispered softly in my ear giving me chills all over my body. Did I just clearly hear that right? Did he mean it? Yes I did and I guess he did base on the tone of his voice alone.
“I love you too.” I could feel Soohyun smiling as he tightened his hug to me at the same time as I blush.
“Miss Hyo Sun, your mom is looking for you.” One of our helpers said when she saw me with Soohyun and that made us broke the hug.
“Ne… Ne. I’ll be right there.” I said as I turned my head to her direction.
When I finished talking to Ms. Park as what we call her, I turned my head back to Soohyun but was greeted by a pair of soft lips touching mine. I got shocked and as if an automatic reaction, my eyes shut close. Soohyun giggled upon seeing my reaction with an obvious shade of pink on my cheeks. The kiss was nothing but a sweet innocent kiss. Just two pairs of lips pressed together - though it lasted for a minute or so.
Soohyun then bowed to me and I did the same in return as a sign of our final goodbye. We gave each other warm smiles as he left.
Sure do. I couldn’t put away the smile on my face that day and the following days that everyone notices it, even mom. Hey. It was my first kiss. And I was just so happy that it was with someone I truly love.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
That moment is indeed one of the greatest moments in my life.

I didn’t think that I stayed longer on my place than I should until a tap on my shoulder brought me back in trance. I looked at the person behind me and it was no other than Minho-oppa.
“Daydreaming again, I see.” I swear I heard a little chuckle from him and with that I got a little embarrassed.
“A… Aniyo Minho oppa.” I told him and he just smiled at me.
“Are you going to Ha Jae’s house?” Minho-oppa looked at me and I just gave him a nod as an answer.
“Then let’s go together.”

We walked to Ha Jae’s house together; me, feeling kinda awkward, and him, I don’t know. We were welcomed by Ha Jae and the others when we got there. It looks like we were the last to arrive. But that was not really the case. All of them were looking at us and knowing what they were thinking, I explained to them that Minho-oppa saw me at the park a while ago and we have decided to go together here. After that, I saw Ha Jae smiled.
I walked over to Ha Jae to ask the reason why we all gathered here today. “You’ll know when the right time comes,” was all that I got from her.
Few minutes after, the doorbell rang and Ha Jae hurriedly went to the front door.
Ha Jae came back inside the house and told us that she has a surprise. So this maybe the reason that we were all gathered here in their house. We were all anticipating for the surprise she was talking about until she pulled someone from the outside.
To our surprise, his brother, Shin Soo Hyun, my Soobear, appeared in front of us. Happiness has taken me over. I couldn’t explain what I was feeling right at the moment I saw Soohyun in front of us.
Mrs. Shin approached her son and they were both in tears as they hugged each other. I also felt like crying when I saw them because of happiness as I looked at Ha Jae; saw her looking at me too, smiling.
Soohyun greeted everyone in his usual way. He never changed throughout the 2 years he was away. Maybe?
“How are you?” Soohyun looked my way and I finally saw his smile again that I missed.
“I’m fine… we missed you” ‘I missed you so much’ were the words I wanted to say but was too shy to say it in front of the others.
“Good thing. Me too.” I noticed that he couldn’t stare right into my eyes just like the way he used to, but I ignored it. All I was thinking right now was that Soohyun is finally back.
Lastly, he looked at Minho-oppa and oppa did the same just to acknowledge each other.
“Oppa, you were with someone. Introduce her to us.” I heard Ha Jae said out of the blue and I looked at Ha Jae then at Soohyun.
“Oh yeah. I’m sorry.” He must have forgotten that he is with someone. He pulled someone to his side and as he put his hand on her shoulders, he happily said, “Everyone, this is Kim Yura… my girlfriend.” All of us were in shock as I could sense others’ eyes were on me. I could clearly tell that Minho-oppa, Ha Jae and Mrs. Shin were all looking at me at the moment.
“Mwo? Your girlfriend? Wae? Wae? Why didn’t you tell us earlier?” Ha Jae whined to her brother as he hit him on his shoulders… hard. Ha Jae was so irritated with what her brother just said. Knowing her for so long, I could tell. Soohyun just tried to calm her sister down while Yura, if I remembered her name correctly, was just in all smiles.
If others were shocked and confused, the rest were happy for Soohyun. Kevin and Taemin congratulated him for finally getting a girlfriend. I couldn’t blame them. They don’t know anything about me and Soohyun and I don’t think they still need to know it since you know, Soohyun has a girlfriend now.
Girlfriend. Soohyun’s girlfriend. As I heard the words ‘my girlfriend’ from him and he was pertaining to someone else and not me, my knees felt weakened and I almost lost my balance. Good thing Minho-oppa was at my side to support me from falling over as his hand was at my shoulder.
My world stopped. And it was like someone was stabbing me right at where my heart is at. I felt like dying at the moment. I was hoping to die at the moment. Oh dear Lord get me now.
Then there was a single tear slid down my cheek and I quickly wiped it as I could without anyone knowing. I was about to walk my way outside when Minho-oppa grabbed my hand, questioning me where I was about to go through his peripheral gaze.
Everyone noticed me that time. “I’ll just… I… I’m just gonna call mom and tell her that I will be home late.” Stuttering a bit but I tried to sound normal. I gave them a painful smile that some of them understand as I walked going outside of the house, crying in silence.
I forced myself to walk in a normal way as I could but it turned out to be a little wobbly. I was thinking of a place in this house where I could rest for a while and then I remembered that there is a place in the house with a swing. It is a place where Ha Jae and I go when we want to talk in private and it is also a place where Soohyun and I go when we want to be with each other and talk about things. Thinking about it made me cry harder but disregarding the fact, I went there anyways. I just need some place to rest and release all my emotions without anyone noticing and knowing. But I guess I was all wrong.
