So University of Pennsylvania is definitely a match for me!!
1) It's located in a city. I want the feeling of actually being a part of wherever I stay, not as if I'm in boarding school (with costs x10); a city is most convenient for this, since I'd most likely be living in an apartment (with others, of course), and stuff like that.
2) It's an Ivy. Therefore very selective, and my kind of school. Hey, I didn't take all of these very high level classes for nothing, right? (Actually, most of them I did enjoy and would've taken anyway *snort*)
3) It's especially strong in both linguistics and German (and foreign languages in general), so I'll basically be in heaven when I go to my classes.
4) It's nearby- I won't have to get on a plane if I want to visit anyone (save for my family in Germany and Florida, of course...)
5) And other nitty-gritty stuff, such as allowing double majors (I seriously think I'm gonna burn myself out in college- I plan on double majoring linguistics/German, PLUS minoring in math...if possible. I can always drop the math if need be)
The only downsides I can think of at the moment would be cost (shouldn't be too big of an issue- I'm expect a good deal of $$$) and that Phildelphia sports fans are FUCKING LUNATICS. *snort*
But yeah, it's definitely my first-choice school, now. And I have a lot of stuff to work for me in the application process- rare major, Filipino, male (believe it or not, men are a slight minority at UPenn), decent grades in rigorous classes...
And if UPenn fails, there's always NYU which is also pretty selective, and I have an additional advantage of my mom having gone there (that whole "legacy" thing...), and also in the city (THE city, I might add, which makes it even better :P)
On a seemingly-unrelated-but-actually-sort-of-related note, I am really having trouble thinking of stuff to put on my National Honors Society application. I have all of 2 things. I think I'm gonna put the Greenwich thingy for service (like, babysitting/volunteering to supervise kids), and using ASP for my leadership (since I really was one of the leaders in my crew). I think that I could be more descriptive of them in these categories rather than the other way around. I really want to do NHS next year because I want to show colleges that I'm not doing community service just to put it on my résumé--I actually enjoy it, and will continue it in Senior Year, but I just wouldn't know how, other than through NHS...I just need 2 more things for leadership, is all...
And on a definitely-completely-unrelated note, I'm still looking for anything I can get my hands on (at this point, just Wikipedia- don't have time to sift through anything else at the moment) the various changes that Vulgar Latin underwent to change to French (and Italian, but that's not as important), Proto-Western-Germanic to Old High German (and possibly later steps as well), and Proto-Slavic to Russian (and Polish, but that's not as important). So yeah *random*
These CAPT weeks were supposed to be bliss -- don't get my wrong, having days where I don't have English or APUSH are amazing -- are actually not. So far, the only day I've actually gone in late to school was last Tuesday (Wednesday was APUSH review, Thursday I didn't have a ride, yesterday was Chem review, today was the mandatory NHS meeting and the Calc review), but I'll also be coming to school late tomorrow due to the Starbuck's meeting for Interact about the genocide assembly and this other program we're doing to raise money for a school in Uganda. Today I had to get up at the ungodly hour of 5:45...that's earlier than the sophomores, no fair T_T
This week has been insane. I got a 17/35 on an English pop quiz for a story that I didn't read, my research paper is due tomorrow, my APUSH journal thing is due Friday, I'm having a Chem quiz (I think Monday, not sure), my English IRP is due Monday, I'll have an APUSH essay over the weekend, on top of reading Huck Finn for English @.@; Not to mention that I won't have Saturday, or a good deal of Friday to do it- Friday is tennis, and Saturday I'm going to THE city for the St. Patrick's Day Parade (Grand Stand tickets! Not passing that up!), followed by Kiss Me, Kate (yes, I think the chances of me going have increased- I told my mom that I promised some people in the cast that I would go- which is true...). So I get all of Sunday to a) read my IRP book from front to back [shouldn't be that hard...], b) write my IRP essay, c) do my APUSH essay.
Oh, and at some point(s) I have to schedule my license appointment (if I can, I'm requesting some time in mid- to late-July), and finish filling out the application for the Goethe Institute- at this rate, I won't get to study in Berlin -_-;
So, uh, yeah...that update quickly degenerated...
