[MISSION LOG] Izumi

Jul 17, 2005 23:07

It's been a week since me and Hinata began our training session and things are going well. We've been practicing our taijutsu (or rather I have been, Hinata can't really go to her full on me) and weapon use. We also worked on endurance, the mountains have advanced trails and obstacles. Stamina and endurance are very important if we have a long term mission.

I wish Kiba was here too so he won't be dragging our team down. I bet he's slacking off somewhere.

MISSION LOG

A week has already passed and we have been busy. The last week was used to get acquainted with the natives. Most were pretty hostile towards newcomers, but the couple that we were boarding with were very nice and quite informative after a few bottles of sake. We were able to find out quite a bit about this village.

The village is called Izumi, named after the body of water that flows into the area. Because of this large river, it was a trading post. Because the country of Grass is so barren, Izumi ships out a lot of lumber and rubber out to other cities. There's also some cash crops to sell from the farms in the north. Therefore, it was a prosperous village, even though the population was low. (The humid summers and bitter winters were too harsh for most people)

Recently, there was a power plant built in an old factory on the northeastern part of town. Apparently, the previous owners were very wealthy. There was a large gap between the wealthiest and second wealthiest. The man monopolized the factory and influenced village affairs, both financial and social. However, it was abandoned recently and not in use. It seems odd that there was a power plant at the outskirts of the town. The water running was not terribly strong, therefore profits from power is questionable. Also, in a small village, there is little use of electricity. Most people were old fashion and I sent some bugs in to find that candles were still in typical use.

There was a scandal that broke out, which drove the owner to shut down the factory and move out. It seems that the corrupt officials were diverting city funds into the factory. Those who were affiliated with the plan have been driven out by angry citizens. It was obvious as to why they were so hostile to newcomers. I had looked at the documents that were still in city hall at night and confirmed this to be true.

Another night, I checked out the factory and uncovered some evidence of a base. The walls were nearly stripped clean, but to have time to come back and clear everything out while a mob was pushing for their eviction. So, they had something to hide. Unfortunately, they did a good job of cleaning up and unless there was a secret compartment that they forgot to clear out, which is doubtful, I'd have to look elsewhere. However, it is certain that there is or at least was a base connected to Subversion Three.

Being "wed" is troublesome. Hinata's great at following along, even though she's still slightly tense. But I think it's just because she shy. But I hope that old man would stop looking at her and winking and then looking at me as if telling me something.

He gave me this toy today. Said that it was to be used in bed.

It squeaked.

What the hell am I going to do with this?
