Strike 3: The Bet
Chapter Summary: Rui and her annoying neighbor play a game.

A ray of sunlight entering from the gaps of my bedroom curtain blinded me and forced me to open my eyes. I took a glance at my digital clock and it says 10:00 AM. Okay… time to sta- wait… seriously? I rubbed my eyes and took a second look. 10:01 AM? My eyes widened at this. Seriously?! I wasn’t awaken by that annoying voice of my annoying neighbor? Wow… that was a first!
As I went on with my routine, I recollected the night’s events. I remembered that after he collapsed I had to drag him all the way to my apartment because he said that he left his keys at Yuto’s. He can be really troublesome. I sighed and faced my reflection on the mirror only to be greeted by a note from him.
Thanks for letting me sleep in your place
and sorry for troubling you…

Inoo Kei
Well, I kind of didn’t expect that he knows how to say thanks huh? I proceeded on to combing my hair and prepared for breakfast. Just as I was getting ingredients for my planned breakfast, I was greeted yet again by other note, this time from Yabu-kun.
Rui,
I forgot to tell you last night that
the apartment is having its mid-year maintenance.
You’ll have to stay somewhere else for a while.
Pack the necessary things that you’ll be needing.
I’ll pick you up at 10:30.
Yabu-kun
“Eh? Doesn’t he have a hang over from last night?” I wondered aloud and hurried to grab breakfast before proceeding to pack my things.
Just like what Yabu-kun said, I heard my doorbell ring at exactly 10:30. I wasn’t finished packing by then but let him in like the usual.
“You ready?” he asked beaming. I don’t like the weird smile on his face though. It’s creepy. I shook my head in response to his question and told him to wait for a while. I heard him whistle as I closed my bedroom door and have a change of clothes. It wasn’t long and I was prepared.
“All done.” I called and then he smiled at me. “You look great! Let’s go?” he exclaimed and then we went off to who knows where.

“I don’t have much time left so I’ll leave you here.” Yabu-kun stated as he put on his shoes on my new flat’s front door. “Be good Rui and I hope you’ll be nice to your flat mate.” And with this, I received at pat on my head.
“I have a flat mate?” I looked up to meet his eyes… ahh… those eyes… He beamed the weird smile of his again; I wonder what he is up to. “Yes, and he will be here soon just went out to buy groceries. I’ll be going now. Have fun~” is it just me or… nah Rui.. stop thinking too much.
I crashed into the sofa and observed the place. It was pretty neat. The furniture was well arranged and the place just gives off a friendly aura. “Guess I will like my flat mate.” And there I go imagining what would she be like. It was already past 12 in the afternoon and I felt sweat trickling down my cheeks that I decided to take a bath. The bath was refreshing. I observed myself carefully in the mirror while drying my hair. And that was when I heard a click coming from the front door. I think it’s my flat mate so I hurriedly finished drying my hair, combing it to my style and went to the comfort room. My eyes went wide and almost made my flat mate deaf with my ear-piercing scream seeing him [unfortunately it’s a him] slowly removing his shirt. Alarmed, he put back his shirt while I cover my eyes. For goodness sake!!!
“HEY! DON’T OVER REACT! ARE YOU THAT PLEASED TO SEE MY DROP-DEAD-GORGEOUS SEXY BODY THAT YOU WELCOMED ME WITH AN EAR PIERCING SCREAM? PLEASE, GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF!”
That guy! Argh! “Inoo-kun! Why are you here in the first place?! And excuse me? The nerve of you to describe your body drop-dead-gorgeous and sexy? Shame on you! Maybe you need a pair of glasses!” I shot back and he was smirking?
“So, you saw it huh? And the way you’re blushing is enough proof that you liked seeing me half naked~” he teased advancing that I had to take steps backward to prevent him from getting closer.
“T-that’s n-not t-rue!” the hell Rui?! Why in the world are you stuttering? I felt his breath on my face that I shut my eyes close literally hearing my heart getting wild inside my ribcage. Heart, can you please be nicer and don’t act that way?
“Shutting your eyes? Want me to kiss you?” he breathed sexily and that was when I found my strength to push him hard that he fell on the ground butt first. “Ouch! THAT HURTS!”
“That’s the point, y-you!!! perv!!!” I hollered panting while grabbing my things. Seriously, what was Yabu-kun thinking making my annoying neighbor my instant flat mate? I headed to the front door. There’s no way I am going to stay with that jerk! I tried to yank the door open but to no avail. What?! I tried again and again but it was no use.
I had no choice but to faced him again. Is destiny hating on me? “Oi Inoo!” I called in an angry tone as he was putting the groceries in the fridge.
“Oh, I thought you want to leave me already. Missed me too soon?” he wasn’t even looking but it was still said in a mocking tone.
“Oh shut up! The door won’t open! What did you do?” I demanded for an answer impatient of the mere fact that we’re staying on the same roof.
“Oh~ that?” he chuckled. “So Yabu-kun was serious when he said he’d imprison me with you.”
“W-what?!”
“Seriously, ain’t you cleaning your ears? You heard me right. It’s locked. I just don’t know when Yabu-kun will set us free. He told me to buy food enough for us with his money and there.” And then he looked serious and sighed “I hoped that he was joking… unfortunately, whether I like it or not, you will be staying with me, in this flat, till Yabu-kun decides to let us go…” he wrapped his arms around his frame dramatically and said “I… I am actually scared… With you living with me, I don’t know…” then he pretended to be sobbing. “I must protect myself from you… or you might just pounce on me and take my INOOcence! Oh my gosh! The mere thought scares me!” and he placed his face on his palms and continued to ‘sob’.
I scoffed “in your dreams! Listen to me, you shall not go near me or I’ll beat you badly!” I threatened him and glared. He flinched and shrank further on the couch by the kitchen area.
“Kowaii!” he scurried under the kitchen table… but then… he bumped his head.
“Baka..”

It was already evening and I was still laying on my bed space room. I felt someone poking me though. “Oi! Rui~~” came a whisper. I tried my hardest to ignore it but badly failed. Apparently, my annoying-neighbor-turned-annoying-flat-mate’s subject was poking my cheeks.
“WHAT DO YOU WANT?!” I slapped his hands away from me and gave him another death glare.
Apparently, efforts are useless since he still looked cheerful. Oh please…“Let’s play a game!”
I lay back to my bed and hid under the cover. “No way I’m going to play with you!”
“But I AM BORED!” he whined like a child and he pulled my blanket away from my body. “Play with me Rui! PLEASE? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!” he begged, blinking his slanted eyes cutely. Oh why can’t I resist for once? So here we are in the living room playing some cards.
“So what are we going to do then?” he asked
“This is a game of chance.” I declared and he listened intently. Not bad for a Meiji Student like him. Now that the cards are equally distributed to us, I left one though under that pillow.” I rolled my eyes though because it has Kattun imprinted on the Pillow Case as I pointed at the said card which was hidden to both our view. “What you do is you just chose 2 cards that has the same number and put it all down. Example Queen of hearts and Queen of Spade, Diamond alas and Clubs alas. You get it?”
“Easy task~” he bragged and did what he was told. “Errmmm…” he inquired after doing the step earlier. “There are no more similar cards…”
“Now you pick a card from these on my hand.” And he did. “Now, if you have a card that is the same with what you got, you put them both down. If it doesn’t match to any of the cards in your hands that means its pair is the one under the pillow.”
“I get it!” and he bounced like a kid. “If I win, you will stop annoying me!” I said firmly and he nodded his head fervently and smiled “But if I win, I will be your master and you will be my slave!” I hmph at his statement. “additional to mine, you’ll be my slave if I win.”
“Okay then!” Inoo smiled and the game went on.
