Prompt: 2-36 Yamamoto/Chrome; safe; "He helped her feel safe in her chaotic life"
Summary: She was never used to kindness- she needed some warmth in her life.
She rarely spoke words. A lone purple eye stares back at the rising steam from the cup of tea placed before her.
"Why don't you drink up?" Takeshi smiled as he sat down in front of her. He couldn't help but notice her shy fingers continually tugging on her jungle green jacket, secretly nursing her latest bruises from the enemies who singled her out this morning. She would have easily retaliated with a simple illusion but a certain swordsman arrived just in time.
"It's good."
Yamamato sighed in relief as he saw Chrome's shoulders relax, her small body soaking the warmth as she sipped on Takesushi's special tea. Any time Chrome would utter a word made Yamamoto feel at ease as he felt slowly but surely she was being accustomed to his gestures of kindness.
"Are you alright?" he would continually ask the Mist Guardian after he disposed of the unruly attackers. Receiving only silent nods as answers, Takeshi worried continuously on the way back to his house just a few blocks away, as if she had something to hide- something she was scared to share. He offered her many plates of sushi but politely declined, much to Takeshi's disappointment- the girl needed to eat.
The warmth of the tea filled her small body- she couldn't help but slip into a microscopic smile as the heat warmed her stomach. It was if the heat was hugging her whole body, a feeling she had never been too familiar with all these years.
"Glad to see you enjoyed it!" the Rain Guardian broke into his trademark grin when his eyes caught Chrome's quick smile. Startled, the purple-haired girl felt her cheeks flush as her eye quickly moved to the floor, unsure of how to deal with the awkwardness. Her legs felt the need to run away like so many other times, her face fretting as her hands nervously played with her skirt.
"Ah I didn't mean to make you embarassed!" Yamamoto gulped as he saw Chrome's discomfort. He just wanted her to feel appreciated, hoping she won't just dash suddenly like she always does. He gently placed his hand over Chrome's fingers, startling her even more as she instinctively gasped at the touch of another person.
"Don't be scared Chrome. We-...I'm here to support you, we're on the same side right?"
His words sent Chrome's awkward shaking to a stop. Flashing another smile, his eyes stared at her own asking for acceptance, true to his words. He did not have to save her from those men earlier and yet he did. Her hand stopped resisting as she became used to the warmth of the Rain Guardian's hand on her skin. She saw Takeshi's genuine smile- free from judgments she has been accustomed to all her life. She could see through her single eye that his eyes never had any intent for harm- he was ttruly asking her to let him in her life just a bit.
"Umm.....Thank you," she softly spoke as her head hung down. She had always resisted the kindness of the Vongola, if she were to change she would have to start by thanking Yamamoto for his tea. Slow and steady, she'll try and not reject the actions of these people.
She took another sip of the warm tea as she gazed upon his bright smile. She felt safe in front of him, breaking into a bigger smile for his kindness as she let the heat embrace her.
