I've had this dream before. It's still strange---to see my mother and sisters so far away.

I wonder if things have changed.

It isn't a dream, though.

How can you be certain?

Because I'm not asleep. And I wasn't the last time I was here, either.

Haven't you ever dreamt you were awake?

Of course, but that's irrelevant to the point.

You could be dreaming right now.

Doubtful, on two counts.

One, if this is your dream, then I cannot possibly also be dreaming it because that would make two independent sources of dreaming for only one dream. They're not shared experiences.

Two, Webster came with me. And if there is one person in the world that cannot be accurately represented in dreams, it is Mike Webster.

People don't share dreams then.

Somehow, I thought it might be different for you.

Why would it be different for me?

Well, I thought that dreaming might be different for humans in general.

And therefore you're not human, despite how much you sound it.

You mentioned you thought dreaming would be different for humans in general. That implies that you, yourself, are not. We generally don't feel the need to refer to each other by species.

...Generally.

Generally.

Some of us occasionally find ourselves disgusted by the people we share a species with.

That's too bad.

Though I can see how it would happen. Sometimes.
