As he holds her in the darkness, he feels it, small but growing stronger every day. In the silence as she sleeps, he hears it, a tiny echo of his own erratic beat but he says nothing, wants the revelation to come to her naturally, not from him.
When the sickness wakes her again, she checks the calendar, biting her lip against the tentative hope as he bites his to hold back the smile. When she comes to him, her smile is as wide as his as she says the words he’s been waiting for.
“We’re having a baby, Doctor.”
