Why can I pay $1645 (this already includes tax) and get return airfare and 7 nights in a 3-star hotel in London, England, and not get the same for destinations in Asia?
$1600 would get me return to Hong Kong, with no hotels and no included meals like the above package. I also need to shell out another $400 to get from HK to ZhanJiang by plane. So $2000 to get to ZhanJiang, no hotels, no meals.
I guess China isn't dumping money on the tourism companies like Thailand and Cambodia are. I think a lot of people are missing out on the awesome beauty of southern China. Outside of the big cities pollution isn't that big a problem. There are banana trees, coconut palms, and mango trees. There are beautiful rolling hills and quaint villages where an old granny will cook you up some fried fish her husband just caught that morning. The food is cheap, unique, and delicious. The people are boisterous and friendly. Spontaneous Cantonese opera performances take place in the various stages in the streets. People dance in parks, and sell a wide variety of hand made goods. You will not see another white face for miles. The people there are tirelessly devoted to their families and everything, even business has a relaxed family feel to it. Haggling and bartering are commonplace. It is a truly unique and wonderful experience.
I am shocked that despite China's rapid growth and development, it is still not a larger tourist attraction. It is a lot more stable in its governance than Thailand. Maybe I am biased because Fang is from China, but I really have enjoyed the time I have spent there.
