- Day 6: Whatever tickles your fancy
Usually I'd go off on a Guilty Gear/Blazblue rant right at the get-go of this sorta opportunity. But not this time.
I dunno, I've been at a 2k-retro phase lately (as you can probably tell by the sudden appearance of JSRF in my life, even though it was from 2003). It made me realize that I may not hate hip hop and rap as much as I thought. Granted, I like certain types of hip hop/rap. Most mainstream American hip hop/rap sucks. Most. In fact, most of the stuff in those genres are foreign. French rap is actually pretty good, as well as Japanese. I got into J-hiphop thanks to JSRF too XD
I've gotten back to listening to Gorillaz, too. I guess it's just in time, since their new album "Plastic Beach" is coming out next month. And now that I did some research, I think Gorillaz is kind of like an Brimerican parallel to Sound Horizon. So I guess I owe it to them for getting me started into the whole story-album thing :) (When I did research on Carousel, it instantly reminded me of the Roman album because Jamie Hewlett said it was gonna have different stories into one album XD)
I guess I can never fully get rid of this band because it has a lot of memories for me. I remember when one of my best friends Joel was moving back when I was in middle school. Me and my other friend Jonathan were visiting his house, and all the rooms were empty. We went to Joel's room, and he only had a radio, a sleeping bag and his Gameboy SP. The three of us all sat around, just talking and listening to the Demon Days album on his radio the entire afternoon.
"If you're yearning for the good old days, just turn off the air conditioning." -Griff Niblack
Well, it was in the middle of the summer and the aircon was packed away. So despite the heat, we were reliving "the good old days."
JSRF's also got me into a really hyper and colorful way of thinking. It's also got a powerful message hidden behind the world of fun-and-skate. I'm always into trippy things, and this game's just a blast of color and trip for me :) Besides, rollerblading'll always be better than skateboarding for me. I dunno, skateboarding's just getting overrated to me now. Heheh.
The 2k-retro phase is really changing the way I am, but it's also adding on to how I view things and how I look. I'm starting to dig vibrant colors (EXCEPT PINK, AS USUAL) now and I'm even starting to use 2k-slang. Diggin' it old school.
So now, time for a little 19-2000 :)
