Simplicities
She's about ten or so. Can't be any older, at least that's what he thinks. Watching her like he is, if anyone saw him he'd be pegged for a pervert. Except, well, he's still a child as well, isn't he? No matter the dark thoughts that sometimes filter through his head, he's still an underage youth. So in all honesty, it's just curious watching.
She's wearing two braids that make her head look huge. Amused, he leans his weight against the fence surrounding the playground, and watches her tails swoosh as she swings further up. Such a simple kid, with her simple parents watching over her from a bench nearby. With her simple clothes, and her simple laugh. His hand grips the railing so tightly that his knuckles turn white.
He's almost too jealous of her.
And what's the point, anyway? With a huff, he lowers his gaze, because he shouldn't be jealous of a young girl who's done nothing except laugh at the beauty of life. It's not like his life is a mess. It's not like his future is uncertain. And if it's consolation, he's alive, at least.
When he looks back up, ready to not hate the girl again, ready to just content himself with watching her swing for a little while longer before returning to the car where his guardian is waiting to pick him up, he finds nothing. She's gone. His hand releases the railing abruptly.
Something in his chest almost hurts at the absence.
And then, he feels a tug on his shirt, and turns around. And there she is. Smiling at him, braids a bit disheveled from running. She's holding out a bag of sweets, and her tongue pokes out through her teeth as she grins at him. "Want one?"
He blinks, and looks at the bag. What a simple candy - white and fluffy, probably just like her insides - these marshmallows are. Just like her, simple. She grins, and it's contagious, so he grins as well. Finally, he nods and grabs one from the bag. He gives her a polite 'thank you' which she ignores in favour of satisfying some curiousity.
"You looked lonely. People shouldn't be lonely in parks, that's what Haru's mom says all the time. What's your name?" she asks.
"Byakuran," he answers, chewing the sweet slowly, enjoying it.
"Byakuran. It's funny," she says, and laughs as if to prove she's not lying. "I'm Haru." And then, she asks, shaking the bag in front of him, "Want more?"
And he looks at her, and looks at the bag, and slowly smiles. Yes. Yes, he does.
