And this entry will pretty much wrap up my very half-assed summary of almost an entire month. Ehehe. And that said, it mainly consists of very random photos that I couldn't fit anywhere else. (Like all the other posts though, any of you that have me added on facebook will find that they're the same photos - just with an explanation :D). Starting tomorrow (if I get around to writing tomorrow), I'll hopefully write about work and/or my amazing current sickness.
When I first arrived to Kamogawa, it was scorching hot (more like stifling humid) and yet my supervisor was dragging me all around town to meet people/see everything around. Luckily my supervisor is quite understanding and a lot of fun (today she told me that she loves mint chocolate - like me! even though apparently it's not so well liked in our office :/), so when she saw me staring longingly at the soft serve, she asked me if I wanted some!
It looks kind of normal here, but in reality it was a strange, very light tinge of purple! That's because it was akashiso (
red perilla??) flavored!! It tasted like milk after the cereal, but it was still good anyway. And I get to add it to my super random ice cream/soft serve flavors eaten list!! (Ajisai/hydrangea was my favorite so far I think).
On my death weekend right before Chiba Orientation (that I blabbed about in my last post), I went to Shibuya with some others (once again, this weekend deserves its own VERY LONG rant) and had a semi-food day!
Shabu-shabu at the usual place near Tokyu Hands! I kinda really wanted that curry nabe again (tho they didn't have it). Also, the waiter was terrifyingly MEAN. Seriously.
I wanted to challenge the gigantic parfait again, but we had just finished shabu shabu, so instead I opted for a kuro-goma soft serve (with mochi)!!! At another usual place,
Sweden's.
Also, lately there have been a fair amount of
Mister Donut commercials with that annoying girl from Zettai Kareshi...I used to kind of like her but now she's popping up too much? But anyway she's eating the maccha pon de ring, which I had been craving from way before, but then the CM just made it waaaay worse. Then I made it a mission to hunt down a Mister Donut (of course there's none anywhere near where I live) - and I found one almost directly in front of the JR Chiba station!
Last of the food pictures. I finally have a decently sized fridge/freezer now, so I of course had to make use of it. Kinako mochi ice cream!!! Is that not awesome? It really does have mochi in the middle too!
Other super randomness:
Poisonous bath water! Actually, I found ryoku-cha/green tea bath powder at LOFT and thought to try it. Sadly, it wasn't as good as I was hoping - it didn't smell like ryoku-cha very much, and then it also left rather gross sticky residue behind (think natto, just not as horrible. Nothing is as horrible as natto, after all.
Driver's seat on the right hand side?? I took this picture during my first trip out driving alone. This car isn't mine - it's one of the city hall cars (we have to drive city hall cars during work hours for insurance/liability issues), although that's fine because it's super new and pretty! I wanted to take a picture of the whole car, but people were walking by and looking at me weird...T_T
My super gorgeous Softbank cell phone! One of the newest models. It's a Sharp phone, like my old ones, and this time the camera is 5.2 megapixel (which makes me really not want to bring my digital camera - it's a 8.something megapixel, but a whole extra thing to drag around. I also have a 2GB memory card for my cell even though my camera only has 1GB...
I could rant about my phone all day! It has TV (even though Kamogawa is too inaka to actually receive the signal, so I have to go to Chiba to use it...) and lots of other fun things - meishi reader, etc. but there are pitfalls too. Mainly softbank service in general. Recently, cell phone prices have literally skyrocketed - I paid 1 yen for my original phone with DoCoMo (those deals rarely exist anymore), and back at the time softbank was offering their phones for free. Now softbank charges monthly rates for their phones - so like me, under a 2 year contract, will pay ~3700 yen per month for the next 24 months...and eventually pay about 90000 yen for my phone. That pans out to about US$900. BUT I should be getting my money's worth if I use it for at least 2 years (hell, I had my old US phone for 5+ years). There are lots more I could complain about softbank's current rules, but I don't regret choosing them this time around.
Last but certainly not least, my favorite thing so far:
AWESOMENESS. When I found it at a local omiyage shop (once again, when my supervisor was dragging me all over the place), I almost kept picking it up until my supervisor was like "why don't we bring that back to the office as omiyage?" I thought she was joking, but she wasn't! Everyone was like O_O when we pulled it out. The second reaction was "Laura, do you like macho?" To which I answered no, I just like weird/different things. Ever since then I think I've been talked about as the 変わり物好きな人, because I went to some other departments at some point and they were like "oooooh! you're the one that likes weird stuff!"
...:D
As usual, I hope everyone is doing well!!
