Oh man. There's only 3 weeks of school left.
SCARY!!!
I should be working on my final projects and what not, but instead I want to share my latest obsession with you all..."Last Friends"!!!
"Last Friends" is a Japanese drama that's currently airing right now. The theme song - and the reason why I decided to give the drama a chance in the first place - is by my beloved Utada Hikaru <3 I don't believe that subs are out yet (as of this entry only 2 episodes have aired anyway) but I think everyone should definitely give it a chance.
Here's a list of the main cast members:
Nagasawa Masami = Michiru
Ueno Juri = Ruka
Eita = Takeru
Mizukawa Asami = Eri
Nishikado Ryo = Sousuke
...half of them are from Nodame! BUT, "Last Friends" couldn't be more different from Nodame. I'm pretty much translating stuff said during a preview of "Last Friends" in the news, but basically it's a very very heavy drama that deals with relationships. All of the main characters are somehow connected, and (well four of them) wind up living together. Each person has inner demons that they can't tell anyone else. It's some pretty serious stuff, and I wouldn't be surprised if it winds up having a depressing ending, but it's SO good.
Let me add...I was a big fan of Ueno Juri before, but now she might be my favorite Japanese actress alongside Matsushima Nanako. Ueno Juri is doing an amazing job with this role, for real yo.

Michiru (Nagasawa Masami) is your happy, cutesy heroine. Or is she? When she was younger, Michiru had a pretty rough time because her father was a drunk and got over his head in debt...Michiru and her mother ran away from Tokyo, and they've just returned a few years ago. She seems to be living a seemingly happy life, working her dream job as an assistant at a salon in Kichijouji, and her boyfriend Sousuke (Nishikido Ryo) just asked her to live with him. Mind you, her mother does absolutely nothing and leeches off of Michiru...
While Michiru is obliviously shopping for stuff to bring when she moves in with Sousuke, through that mysterious strike of fate, Ruka (Ueno Juri) happens to be there as well! Ruka and Michiru are best friends since middle school, but when Michiru ran away they lost contact. Ruka is the total opposite of Michiru - super boyish, aiming to be a world class motocross racer. They have they're super joyous reunion, but Ruka seems torn between happiness and something else.
Then there's Eri (Mizukawa Asami), a outspoken super cheerful flight attendant. We don't find out much about her yet, but in any case she shares a house with Ruka. Then there's Takeru (Eita), a budding makeup artist. We don't find out much about him either, but he seems to have something for Ruka...?
Shortly after moving in with Sousuke, Michiru wakes up to find him checking her cellphone. DUN DUN DUN...obsessive bf anyone? Paranoid that Michiru has another guy on the side (because Ruka tends to be a guy's name), Sousuke seriously beats the hell out of Michiru. After Michiru escapes for the night at Ruka's place, Ruka steals a kiss from Michiru as she sleeps - so Ruka's a lesbian.
So far there's domestic violence, and then acceptance of gay/lesbians. I'm interested to see what other issues come up, and how the Japanese viewers are reacting to it. Check it out!!!
