Misa takes a few steps away and perches on the edge of the large bathtub.
"When I first got here, I ran into another Misa - the one who is with L. She said that she and L managed to somehow make it so...so that when the mansion sends them back, she goes back to his world, not her own. I don't know how they did it, but...we could find out?"
She watches him carefully, her heart hammering in her chest nervously. It's a crazy notion, really - they hardly know each other, but the thought of letting him go back to his own world just so he can die...whether it helps his cause or not...makes her feel ill.

He stares at her, eyes wide and blue. He feels so strange yet normal, standing there with her in just a white tank and a pair of bright red boxers. Looking at her, sitting there on the side of the tub, wrapped up in their bedsheets... Our bedsheets, eh? She's not only cute and absolutely adorable like that; she's completely and totally beautiful, in a way that the Misa in his world never could be.
Matt crosses the surprisingly spacious bathroom to sit beside her; one arm around her shoulder, and she's leaning into his embrace. Finally being honest with himself, he realizes that he'd love nothing more "But..." Something's still nagging at him. "...what about Light?"

Her instinctive response is to just laugh and reply 'What ABOUT Light?'.
But she'd be lying to herself, if she shrugged it off like that. He has a point. And not only because she still feels conflicted on the matter. There's the very real possibility that Light would...not take kindly to her returning to their world with Matt in tow. If such a thing is even possible

Matt can barely focus on her words; all he can really seem to pay attention to is her lip-biting. It's so fucking cute... He just wants to bite that lip for her.
When he hears that last part, however, he tenses up. If I ever meet that sick fuck, I am so fucking him up, Matt decides.
He reaches up, gently taking Misa's chin in his fingers, and turns her head toward him; her eyes meet his, and their so full of tears that Matt's expression hardens, though he tries hard to soften it. "Amane," he murmurs quietly, looking her right in the eye - something he rarely does with people. "A man should love you for you - not for what you can do for him." He's nearly overwhelmed by the echoing ache he feels that he needs to tell her this sort of thing.

"You see..." she whispers, softly, unable to look away from Matt any longer, her light blue eyes locking with his "...that's just it. People keep telling me those things, and the more I hear it, the more I...agree with it. But it's hard. I've been dependent on Light for so long, that I don't know how to...exist on my own. If I went back to my world without you, I don't know what I'd..." she trailed off, embarrassed suddenly by her own admission. Her cheeks flushed.
"But you have your own world, stuff you need to do - I know that you feel like dying is...what you have to do, to help catch Kira. And you...you have someone back home, too, don't you?"
She hasn't really heard him talk about Mello much - certainly not in any great detail, but she's sensed it - a certain change in his tone, when Mello's name is mentioned. She doubts he'd be so keen to die if it wasn't for the sake of his 'best friend'.

Matt smiles at her embarrassment; the scarlet tinge to her cheeks just makes him wanna look at her more.
But when she brings up Mello...
It's only fair, he thinks, looking away from her suddenly. I've brought up Light, so it's her right to bring up Mello.
"I really have no idea how to handle that," he says honestly. "I - Mello and I have been through thick and thin, ever since I was six years old! He's..." His heart flutters as he suddenly remembers dark rooms, small blood-covered fingers frantically punching a phone number, the clatter of a knife meeting the hardwood floor. He stares at the floor, wide-eyed. "When I was eight, I went to my last foster home, and-and something bad happened." He refused to look at her. "Something very bad happened. And when I-when I got back, Mello was the only one who treated me like it was no big deal - which was what I needed! I didn't need pity, and I didn't need hugs - I needed a good, solid friend who would treat me like a person." He licks his lips, shaking from his admission. "He made me feel

She had known she wouldn't like what he had to say about Mello. She had no right to be jealous, of course. No right whatsoever, especially given her own 'situation' with Light. But the way Matt talked about Mello...the look that came over him when he talked about their past together...
It wasn't like she could ever match up to that. At least with Light, she had the ability to make herself the most important person in his life. As long as there were things she could do for him that nobody else could - like finding out L's real name - she was indispensable, important...the most important. Even if his love was just an act to keep her in her place, at least it was guaranteed.
"You wouldn't give him up then, would you?" she murmurs, quietly. She isn't even really sure why she's asking, since she already knows the answer. "Not going home isn't an option, for you."
His head snaps up, and he blinks at Misa. She sounds so withdrawn... so despondent... "Look... I just need a little time to think on it." He blinks, a bit ashamed of his next admission. "To be honest... I've been sorta hoping that neither of us would leave this place... I've been so depressed back home. Things aren't the same anymore; Mello's so wrapped up in beating Near at catching Kira that it's... it's like we're not even us anymore!" He groans, seriously hoping that he's not coming off as a whiny bitch.

It's a strange admission, given the fact that yesterday she would have given just about anything to be back in her own world, with Light. How can things have changed so drastically in twenty four hours? Light, Kira, the shinigami eyes, killing Higuchi, killing L...it all seems like a weird, crazy dream - or a memory of something that happened in the distant past.
"...to be honest, I'm scared to go home. I'm scared of what Light will do when he finds out that I..." she glances at Matt, sheepishly "...you know."
It's hard, but Matt manages not to fly off the handle; good thing, too, 'cause doing so this early in the morning would only cause a headache.
He takes a deep breath and counts to ten - something he had to teach Mello to do.
"If we decide to go back to your universe, then you can rest assured nothing will happen to you." He looks her right in the eye. "If Yagami Light - or anyone else - lays a hand on you, I'll beat the shit out of 'em myself." He blinks once. "That includes my Mello."

Without even thinking about it, she reaches over and takes his hand, lacing her fingers with his.
"Do you think he'd want to hurt me...your Mello?"
She sounds more curious than afraid. As far as she knows, Matt's Mello isn't in the mansion - and therefore, not an immediate threat. Besides which, if all else failed, she had the death note...
Somehow, Misa doubts that - especially since, through his involvement with this Mello character, Matt somehow ends up dead. She looks at him skeptically.
Oh, that was nice. She liked it when he kissed her. She reached for him, the sheet slipping a little down her shoulders, pulling his mouth to hers as she brushed a brief, teasing kiss across his lips.
"I thought of that..." she admitted "...but how are you going to avoid dying? You don't know how it's going to happen, do you?"
His usual grin widen as his breathing quickens, and he presses his lips against hers a little more roughly. Matt breaks away quite suddenly, smirking playfully. "Actually... A Mello and I had a nice chat in a bar." He frowns slightly at the memory of that certain bar. "He kinda sorta filled me in."
