I apologize how dead my livejournal has gotten these past months, but real life keeps me away from it and there's hardly anyone here since Tumblr has become the go-to thing for posting stuff. However, since I don't have a Tumblr yet, I'm using this as an out-lite for my rage and anger. And tonight's rant is about WWE lately and why I've stopped doing my Raw Reviews. Warning, this is mostly uncut anger and rage.
So I've just finished catching the last several minutes of RAW tonight and I just have to ask something:
What the hell has happened to the WWE these past several years?
I'm sorry, but the WWE has slowly over the past year begun to suck very, VERY hard. It seems to be repeating the same damn mistakes that made it suck a few years back when I started to do my reviews of RAW. Plus, the current main storyline is something we've seen several times before and it's becoming stale and boring as fuck.
First off is the current main tier wrestlers on RAW. It's the same several guys we've seen in the top tier for the past several years: Cena, Randy Orton, Big Show, Kane, and CM Punk, plus Triple H, who isn't in full wrestling capacity, but has wormed his way into the main storyline. Many of the younger talent and ones that used to be in the main events a while back like Daniel Bryan, R-Truth, Kofi, Sheamus, and many others that can show they're much more talented and creative are being pushed aside for the "Money making" stars and spotlight stealing squads. Now I don't know if this is true for Smackdown, but since RAW is the only show I somewhat regularly watch, this is what I've been seeing. Seriously, how many times must we see Cena and Orton as the heavyweight champions? The Tag team division is pretty much non-existent with many teams being made up on a whim or being treated as comic relief. Some are interesting like the Shield and the Wyatt family, plus the new team of Golddust and Cody Rhodes, but the others are mostly forgettable or stuck with gimmicks that have grown tiresome. As for the women's division... well, at least AJ isn't the village bicycle anymore and Natalya is getting some exposure finally. That's all I've gotta say about that.
Then there's the storylines, especially the current main one. It's pretty much a rehash of the Corporation Storyline with Triple H in place of Vince McMahon and Stephanie as herself. Now they got Kane playing the Undetaker roll and Shield acting like the nWo B-team, being the main attack squad to weaken wrestlers to let Randy or Kane kill them effortlessly. How many times must we see this storyline? It worked well with Vince because Vince played the psychotic boss great and it was somewhat original, even though the nWo and WCW did it technically first. Still, it's a resurrection of a decent storyline and made idiotic. For a while, Daniel Bryan was the Steve Austin after CM Punk turned heal and was with Paul Heyman, another storyline that was annoying as fuck. And now Daniel has been shoved aside for a feud with the Wyatts while Big Show has been made the main good guy, but tonight, he ended up beaten up by Shield, Randy, and Kane and again, another wrestler is thrown through a table to end the show. Yawn.
Yes, I know I'm being super critical and yes, I know it's not real, but when over half of the current wrestling lineup is being held down and not having a lot of build up aside from the same matches we seem to see over and over and over and over again, crappy storylines that are boring or reused, and the same damn wrestlers being pushed down our throats, it sometimes lead to some people cracking up.
I hate to say it, but I think I'm really, really close to stop watching wrestling all together. It's really stupid for me to keep watching wrestling in hopes to see something new or entertaining, but when I see good female wrestlers not being used correctly, stupid, reused storylines that are done badly, and good or great wrestlers being pushed aside for the same dull crap I've seen over and over again, it's hard to be hopeful. If they don't do something soon, I think they might be in serious trouble.
In short... yeah, it hasn't been a good couple of weeks in WWE.
