Bandwagon jumping ahoy!

Bender hails from Futurama, animated TV show (and (years after that fizzled to a halt after four seasons) a sequence of movies).

Futurama
A loser of a pizza-delivery boy falls/trips/is pushed into a cryo-chamber and wakes up 1000 years later just in time to see in the new millenium. Fry meets Leela - purple hair, one eye and not interested except for how that's less than true sometimes - and Bender - robot complete with detachable arms, legs, head and attitude. The three of them end up working for Fry's multiple great-nephew mad scientist Professor Hubert Farnsworth and his delivery business, along with Hermes (Rastafarian accountant), Amy (rich, ditzy engineering intern) and Dr Zoidberg (incompetant crustacean physician). There are run-ins with DOOP, heads in jars, sewer mutants, Omicron Persei 8 and also - sometimes - package deliveries.

How Bender got here
Bender's arrives in Fandom when 3rd season episode 'Insane in the Mainframe' takes a slight left turn. Accused of a crime he didn't (for once) commit, in canon Bender and Fry plead insanity and are sent to a robot insane asylum. This Bender pled off as a juvenile (he was built in 2998) and was sent to a reform school. One of the professor's inventions later and Bender is a few hundred years out from where he was expecting. Oops.

Bender - a user guide
Bender (or Bender Bending Rodriguez, convicted felon) is a robot - a bending unit, strong enough to bend - or even *gasp* unbend metal bars. He has the detachable arms, legs and head, and can conduct minor repairs on himself. His limbs are flexible and extendable.

But mostly? Bender is a jerk and a thief. He's also a heavy drinker - Futurama robots run on alcohol - a gambler and lazy. He was the Planet Express cook, but robots don't have tastebuds so that doesn't work well. He's not exactly opposed to casual violence, has a long-running vendetta with can openers and a fear of magnets. Because of how he was sent here he'll be on his good behaviour (for certain values of good) until he gets bored with that.

And a bit more about the thief thing, Bender picks things up like a magpie. And at least in canon seems pretty much only motified by how likely he is to get caught, and sometimes not even that's enough to stop him. He won't take anything major/specific without OOC permission, but if you're okay with some petty theft then let me know who he's got the okay of for minor (and totally catchable) thievery. Likewise if at some point you need something specific taken.

Now I'm going to find screencaps of Bender-as-penguin before the iconnage becomes inappropriate.
