Drabble Meme: Smurf Edition
Okay, so, apparently all I needed to kick my writer's block in the ass were a bunch of little blue people. Go figure. =P
Did this because I finally saw the movie and absolutely loved it (even if I can't remember ever even liking the series, lol), and because I clearly had nothing better to do at 1:15 in the morning. :D

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Put iTunes or equivalent media player on random.
3. For each song that plays, write something related to the theme you picked inspired by the song. You have only the time frame of the song: no planning beforehand: you start when it starts, and no lingering afterward; once the song is over, you stop writing.
4. Do ten of these, then post.
Smurfs
Characters: Clumsy, Smurfette, Brainy, Grouchy; mentions Grace Winslow, Gargamel, Harmony, Weepy, and Lazy.
Pairings: Brainy x Clumsy, Grouchy x Smurfette.
Warnings: Spoilers, gay Smurfs, and the fusing of cartoon and movie 'verses together.

Invincible - Hedley (3:45)
Clumsy believed Grace when she told him that no one person could ever and only be defined by one thing, and one thing only. That was a nice thought, and he had even gone along with her, suggesting that maybe one day he would be something heroic, instead of just clumsy.
That moment had been short-lived, though, and he laughed it off in good nature. It was a nice thought, but that was all it was; he didn't know how to be a hero, only knew how to be himself. And he was alright with that, most of the time.
So, when it comes down to it, and the mad wizard is fighting another losing battle, and the dragon wand is in the air, he isn't really sure what propels him forward. He stumbles and his reach falls just short one time too often, but something is urging him on and after the wand, even as it careens down toward the cold, hard concrete.
He isn't a hero, and he keeps telling himself that - because all he is and all he ever will be is himself - but he feels like one when he manages (through sheer dumb, clumsy luck) to catch the wand.

Hear Me - Kelly Clarkson (3:57)
She values her pulse. She takes a few precious moments every day to just breathe and let her heart beat for all its worth, because it wasn't all that long ago that a stone (the hardest Gargamel could find) had sat in its place instead. It wasn't very long ago at all that she hadn't been real, only blue clay and an array of other horrible things, magicked to into a wretched life.
And it wasn't very long after that, that Papa saved her, and really made her real. He gave her flesh and bone and blood and a heart that beat. And for a quite some time, that had been enough, to simply just be alive and a real Smurf and not some twisted, horrible doll.
But after awhile, she started to feel objectified - but, she reasoned, that was only natural, being the sole female in a male-oriented world. Most of them sought her out, and while it had been flattering, she soon began to understand that the only reason they even wanted her, was because she was a girl.
Nobody - as far as she knew - wanted her for who she was, and in the end, that was all she really wanted.
So, maybe that's why she takes to Grace so quickly. She encourages her to be herself, treats her like another living being, and sees her as Smurfette and not just another girl.

There was something incredibly frustrating about not being able to dispel the vast amount of knowledge he had inside of him. More often than not, he would barely begin and he would be told to stop. He understood that his - well, everything grated on the other Smurfs nerves, but he couldn't help who he was. (None of them could, but that didn't stop Brainy from hypocritically demeaning Harmony or Lazy or Weepy or anybody else when their faults became more obvious than usual.)
Nobody listened, and on top of being frustrating, he had to admit it also hurt quite a bit.
Well, no, that wasn't entirely true. To say nobody listened was an exaggeration. The truth of the whole matter was: somebody listened. One single Smurf out of an entire village listened to him, and didn't seem to really care what he had to say or when he had to say it.
And that was why Brainy loved Clumsy as much as he did.

Grouchy hates a lot of things. He hates carrots and snow and cows and saying hello (though, he hates saying goodbye even more) - and a plethora of many other things. Some of which are yet to be discovered, but it's a fact that every day he finds something new to tack on to the bottom of the list of things he hates.
It goes without saying that the thing he actually does like are few and far between. But some of those rare things are rather surprising, like cupcakes and flowers and babies.
Not so surprising - because every other smurf in the village likes her, too - he also likes Smurfette. However, unlike everybody else, he doesn't like her because she's the only female he's ever seen. It's because she's her, and she's beautiful and exciting and different.
Of course, he also hates that he likes her, because there's a good chance that if he lets her inside, shows her his most vulnerable places, he could get hurt. And, naturally, he hates getting hurt - so, even if it makes him grouchier on some days, it's easier to just lie to himself and pretend Smurfette is on the list of things he hates, too.

Accidentally In Love - Counting Crows (3:09)
It's no secret that Clumsy is a walking disaster, an accident waiting to happen. It's also no secret that even if the village has learned to cope with all of his fumblings, sometimes he wishes he weren't so - well, clumsy.
Sometimes, though, good things come of his accidents. There have been times where he's accidentally saved the day, and then, for those few fleeting moments he can feel a little less clumsy and a lot more heroic. However, of all his mistakes there is one he, personally, favors.
He isn't quite sure how it happened, or even why, but Brainy is his favorite mistake.
They always had been drawn to one another - perhaps because nobody else really wanted them around (for decidedly good reasons, regardless of how mean they seemed), so they had, somehow or another, found solace in each other. What started as an awkward friendship turned into so much more over the years, and even if Brainy could be bossy and often spoke thoughtlessly and was a little too high on himself, well...
Clumsy wouldn't change him for the world.
