Summary: Police officer Kim Jonghyun's life was turned upside down by the mysterious murders conducted in his area of Seoul, and by the fact that there were absolutely no leads pointing towards any killers. Or at least--any human killers. Jonghyun struggles with himself as he realizes that he might as well be insane for the he is the only one how could ever believe...In vampires. Meanwhile, if the doubts of his own sanity trouble his mind, the fact that his college boyfriend Kim Kibum suddenly returns home to Korea from America, holding a secert of his own. (I can't write a fititng summary. Sorry for the terrible recap, but this is all I can do right now!)

             “Jonghyun.” A deep and serious voice resounded for the fifth time in a ten minute block. “Jonghyun. Dude, seriously, Jonghyun, snap out of it already. When was the last time that you slept? This is serious, Jonghyun, you’ve gotta snap out of it and focus already.”

Jonghyun shivered a little before finally snapping out of his trance the best that he possibly could at a time like that. He was sitting at his work, late at night already, at a desk that was completely covered with files of evidence and cases, files and records. His partner Minho was standing above him, holding a manila folder in his hands, and wearing a serious expression on his face as he cast his eyes down onto the older boy.

“Oh-oh, Minho. Sorry! I zoned out for a minute there…” Jonghyun groaned after a moment, searching his messy desk for his coffee mug, hoping that the caffeine would help save him a little bit-only after he got a few sips in, signaling for Minho to explain the manila folder that he was holding and the determined expression burning in his junior’s eyes.

Minho sighed slightly before pulling out a swivel-chair at Jonghyun’s desk, and sitting next to Jonghyun, placing the folder on the table for the first time since he received it. “Zoned out for a minute? You have been sitting there, staring at the water cooler for the last twenty minutes already. Is the killer behind this last murder really bothering you that much? You look really freaked out and stressed.” He asked, multi-tasking and organizing some papers in his folder as he spoke.

Jonghyun half smiled after a moment and rubbed his temples. “Ah, well, they are just as dangerous as a murderer, I’m sure. A past lover. Just about to move back to Korea after being in America for two and a half years. I don’t know whether we are still together, or not. We both agreed to see other people while we were apart, but now that we’re in the same country again-I don’t know. We never really broke up, and I still love them but-” His voice trailed off into something sounding more like a thought than a sentence.

Minho shrugged after a moment, lost when it came to the ways of love, before letting out a breath. “Yes, very complicated.” He muttered, before quickly changing the subject. “Now, let’s try to focus on something easier. I’m sure that you’ll probably figure it out a lot sooner than your other problems. We’ve got ourselves a missing kid. No leads as to where he has gone, and no signs that the parents could even think about detecting that he wanted to run away. And, also, a rather large suspicion of murder. He was last seen at a night prep-class preparing to take his college exams. He attended as normal, and didn’t show any weird signs of nervousness or anything during the class. He is believed to have started walking home around midnight, and then, zoop! He’s gone.” He explained. “A runaway letter showed up at the parent’s house a week later. There was no postage stamp or processing on the envelope for going through the mail.”

Jonghyun closed his eyes and let out a quiet breath before taking a sip of his coffee out of his mug. “It sounds like a poorly planned kidnapping case to me. His adductor made it obvious that he was kidnapped.” He answered. “Now, tell me a little more about the victim. Who is this boy? Still a kid?” He asked.

Minho wordless opened his manila folder and slid out a sheet of information before passing it to Jonghyun. “Barely past it. He just brushed past seventeen in July. His name is Lee Taemin. A light boy, barely 50kg, and already 175cm tall. Parents described him as a happy and active boy who loves dancing and was eager to starting college this winter. He was attending the prep-class with three close family friends that have been with him since high school, but was very popular at school and had a large group of good friends. Most of these were part of his dance class. We think that it’s safe to rule out suicide for this case.” He explained.

Jonghyun nodded before reopening his eyes and browsing over the sheet. On the top was a small picture of a young male with long honey hair and a smile that could outshine the sun. It made Jonghyun feel sick for anyone to imagine hurting such a kid. “Ruling out suicide, but how about murder? He’s a pretty boy-it wouldn’t be strange for someone like him to be abducted. There’s no one that attended his prep-class that had any sort of predator history? Have you questioned the predators in the nearby area?” The police officer asked, pushing Kibum and all their problems to the back of his mind, his sense of justice becoming too strong to imagine anything else at the moment.

Minho seemed to suck in his lips a little bit before going back to his manila folder. “Predators were checked. We haven’t found anything suspicious. We’re almost one-hundred percent sure that he was abducted. Because we suspect murder is why we put this case on you. Look at these evidences. They’re all the proof you’ll need for abduction, and strong for the suspicion of murder.” He said, sliding a paper and some laminated evidences to Jonghyun.

Jonghyun’s eyes opened wider as he saw the photos and nearly dropped his coffee mug. This was too much for him. Just from seeing the picture of Taemin, he could see how happy and loving the kid was-these pictures just made him sick to the stomach. Minho seemed to have the same reaction to them, before sighing slightly and explaining the scene.

“This is an alleyway that’s just about half a block away from his prep-class. The parents said that he would only walk two blocks to their house after his class. The blood on the wall there was matched to Taemin’s DNA. There were two other evidences. Two tearings of clothing were found on the ground next to the alley-wall on the ground. DNA was extremely difficult to track on the clothing, but from what we were able to find was that it was Taemin’s blood on the tears, but the articles of clothing were drenched with saliva. We tried very hard to find a match to the saliva samples that we received, but there was no match at all to any of the predators we have listed-not even to anyone that we have any record of. It’s a complete dead end.” He said, after a moment.

Jonghyun shuddered. For something like this to happen-he wouldn’t allow it. Suddenly, it struck him. His eyes snapped open before looking up at Minho quickly. “Yah! Minho! What part of the shirt were these articles from!?!” He asked quickly.

Minho stopped before looking back in his manila folder. “Evidence B was from the collar of the shirt, while C was from the shoulder on the left side. Why? What are you getting at?” He asked, after a moment.

Jonghyun didn’t answer. He only moved onto another piece of evidence. “This is the letter sent to the parents’ address a week later right?” He asked, scanning over a letting with complete concentration, focusing on every single word, Minho only being able to nod.

Umma, Appa, Hyung….

By now I’m sure that you’re already aware that I am gone, and that me writing this letter to you will only make it harder, but please don’t worry about me and listen to the feelings that I have kept secret for so long. Every single day over all the years, I have loved you all with my heart. When I was younger, I used to thank the stars every night that I had an amazing family like you-and I still do every single day. Always I have loved you, and always I will continue to love you. Remember that, no matter what, okay? Everything you guys have done for me will never be forgotten, and I will always be in debt to you. Even though…now my heart suddenly feels uneasy. Vanishing away was all that I could do to relieve this. Always in the back of my mind was this feeling that I can’t explain. M .Persistently reminding me of a secret obsession that I can’t help but want to pursue. I can’t begin to explain it, but somewhere deep inside of me there’s this feeling that I cannot kill-a feeling of being unsatisfied. Reminding myself of who I am and how much you guys mean to me-I’ve been able to push back all these feelings for so long, but I knew it couldn’t last forever. Eventually you’ll realize that me running away is what is best. Strange as it may seem, I’m not the same person I was before. Realize this-I’m no longer an innocent person. Recently my mind has been dark-I don’t want to hurt you any longer. Eventually I’m sure that you’ll be able to understand, this is what is best. Always remember though-Loving you is something that I’ll never be able to stop-even if my heart has turned dark.

-Taemin

Minho kept himself silent until he realized that Jonghyun had finished reading the letter and leaned forwards a little bit to glance over the paper, scanning his eyes over the letter which he had already read a total of six times in a row. “Well? What do you think? This whole letter-none of it makes sense to me. It definitely seems forced; someone as sweet and innocent as the parents explain Taemin as…how could he say something like his heart has turned dark? However, the content of the letter doesn’t really make sense with past letters from victims who were forced to write running away letters to their parents. Normally they state not to look for them or explain that they were running away because they felt too restricted at home-something believable. I can’t figure anything out about this letter.” He inputted after a moment.

Jonghyun stayed quiet and didn’t reply to his partner as he reviewed the letter again. He skipped every other word, every letter of the first word, every trick he could think of. Suddenly though, it was almost as if the whole letter almost made itself clear immediately in front of his eyes. Each capital letter of each sentence….Jonghyun did his best to silence his gasp as the secret message made itself clear to him. Quickly mentally jotting down each capital of each sentence in his head, he realized what Taemin was really trying to say.

B.E.W.A.R.E.V.A.M.P.I.R.E.S.R.R.E.A.L

Jonghyun swallowed the best he could, but for some reason managed to keep his discovery quiet and to himself. Minho wouldn’t believe him, even if he told him. Until the day that he had collected enough strong evidence to support his theory, he didn’t find it necessary to tell anyone else. So, instead he stacked all of the evidence into a pile and took a sip of his coffee before looking back at Minho again.

“These are copies of the evidence, yes? If they are-I’ll hold onto these for further research. Be sure to get me an appointment with the Forensic team, please. And, about the person who found the blood in the alleyway? Do you think you could get me an appointment to talk with him? Also-one more question. What was the location of the alley where they found the boy’s blood?” He asked, after a moment.

Minho glanced down as he scribbled a few things down on a sticky note before nodding and sticking it on the outside of his manila folder. “Another reason why this case will interest you and why I asked so hard to get the chief to assign us to this case; Lee Taemin’s blood was found in an alleyway a block away from yesterday’s victim’s body location. We believe that cause of death-or whatever happened to Taemin-was similar to yesterday’s victim as well; even though Taemin lost a lot more blood than him and there was no body found. We’re only hopeful that because we have not found a body that he is still alive.” He answered.

Jonghyun’s eyes shined with interest before bringing the coffee cup to his chin to hide his strategizing. “Good, fine then. Tell the parents that we’ve started an all-out search for Taemin. I honest to god don’t believe that the kid is dead, and hell, I don’t believe at all that he ran away. This is definitely an abduction if I ever saw one. Tomorrow, you and I will both join the search party and investigate the place where the DNA was found. Until then, get me a meeting with the guy who found the blood splatter. There’s one thing that I can tell you now, Minho; young Lee Taemin is not dead. I can promise you that now.” He stated confidently.

Suddenly, outside of the police office’s small window, and a few buildings down, snugged between a thin alleyway there was a smirk and a content chuckle. Two allies shared gazes and both smirked in the darkness together as the words Jonghyun had just said were somehow heard.

“Hear that, Tae?” A deep and cold voice asked content against the rush of the busy night’s city noises. “This human here can swear that you’re not dead. I wonder if he’s willing to pledge that on his life?” The larger of the two allies snorted, hiding his face behind his long bangs and dark black hood that came down as low as the tip of his nose.

The smaller of the two smiled just lightly before looking back down at the floor, away from the police station, allowing for his dirtied honey hair, tips slightly blackened and dirty-blood red, to fall into his face and cover his eyes completely. “Officer Hyung knows a lot about us, doesn’t he, Hyung? He decoded my message so easily like that….wouldn’t it be dangerous to keep him alive now that he knows so much? Shouldn’t we just kill him before he tells the rest of the police? I always thought that the letter was too dangerous.” The younger boy chirped against the coldness of the night’s thin air.

The older man only chuckled contently at this before tossing a thermos to the younger boy. “Ah, Taemin. You’re always so eager. That’s part of the reason why I turned you.” He said contently. “But don’t be so thirsty all the time. Drink what’s left from yesterday morning if you’re hungry. I want to see how far this human is willing to go. Surely no humans would ever believe him-even if he knew all about us.” He smirked.

Taemin turned his face to the full moon as he glanced back towards the police station before puffing his cheeks out and pouting his lips a little. “But…I’m afraid that he’s going to find us, Onew Hyung. What will we do if he does? He’s smarter than he looks.” He muttered quietly. “I really just think that we should just--!?” He was silenced by the older’s cold hand being pressed against his mouth quickly as he lunged forward to silence the younger boy immediately.

“Sush! Wait! Listen. Tae, do you smell that?” Onew asked, scanning the entire city quickly. “There’s a new blood in town-not as new as you-but like he has just gotten over his first year. He smells so strong, like he just ate, but he also smells repulsive. Like French fries and a strawberry milkshake….what is he? An American?” Onew growled, still looking around in hopes to find the one he had suddenly just smelt so strong. Taemin stayed hushed and closed his eyes, smelling the best he could to try to catch onto the scent that the older boy had caught.

~~~
Jonghyun rubbed his temples as he reviewed another file, but found himself being drawn back to the other case. “Lee Taemin…disappears in the middle of the night around 12:50am. Blood found in an alleyway a block away from Victim 7, and two blocks east from Victim 5, and three miles from Victim 6. All eight victims including Taemin have been found within a radius of 19.3km. Blood from Victim 8, Lee Taemin, was found on the alleyway, rips of clothing from the collar of his shirt-the neck and shoulder parts-covered in unidentifiable saliva. All clues really lead to vampi-” His thoughts were cut short by the loud noise of his cellphone suddenly ringing loudly.
Jonghyun jumped at the noise, but calmed himself down the best he could after a moment. Just because he was thinking about vampires didn’t mean they existed. He let out a breath before slowly flipping open his phone and holding it to his ear. “Yeoboseyo? Officer Kim Jonghyun.” He answered, but was only immediately answered by a scoff on the other line.
“Pfft!! Quit with the whole officer thing, Jonggie. I already told you that I’d never believe you…besides, what kind of police officer keeps the same cellphone number he’s had since he was eighteen?” The diva asked on the other line. “Now, stop lying and just…TELL ME WHY THE HELL YOU’RE NOT HERE TO PICK ME UP LIKE YOU PROMISED!?!?” Kibum suddenly screamed loudly.
Jonhhyun’s eyes snapped open widely. “OUUHOMIGAAA! What time is it!?!? You’re here already!?! You’re in Korea!?! I’m late to get you!?!” He shrieked quickly as he suddenly remembered that tonight was the very night that his long lost Kibum was returning to Korea.
Kibum growled furiously and quietly on the other line. “I left Los Angeles THIRTEEN HOURS AGO!!! I even sent you a text message telling you when I was getting on the plane!! PABO! Don’t you care about me enough to even remember when you promised me you’d pick me up!?” He yelled quickly.
Jonghyun slammed his laptop shut and leaped up from his desk at the speed of light, before quickly turning around (nearly ending up tripping on his desk phone’s cord and doing a face plant in the process). “I’m leaving the office right now!! I’ll be there in ten minutes! Time me!! TEN minutes!!” He screamed quickly as he rushed towards his office door. “MINHO, GET MY CAR!!!!”
~~
Kibum groaned slightly before slamming his cellphone shut and slamming it into his pocket. “Stupid dinosaur Jonghyun, forgetting about me….it’s not like I wanted to or had any choice but to stay in America for an extra six months….” He huffed furiously, crossing his arms and leaning against the pillar of the baggage claim pick-up area, waiting for Jonghyun to pick him up already.
Suddenly, a couple feet away from Kibum, hidden by the darkness, bright, sharp and white teeth smiled contently. There was a slight shift before a second face appeared in the darkness as the smaller of the two leaped down from where he had been, but skillfully made no noise. “Is this the one that we’re smelling, Hyung?” A soft and young voice whispered, quietly. “He seems quite like a human still.”
Onew only smirked again as he stared closer at the illuminated Kibum in front of him. “You are still young and oblivious, Taemin. You’re just barely two days old. This is your first time seeing another vampire, aside from me, so distinguishing vampires from humans only by sight may be difficult still-but I’m sure that you can smell him, can’t you?” He asked his newborn.
Taemin pouted a little bit before shaking his head. “All I can smell is American food-and it smells really terrible. If he’s a vampire, why does he eat that kind of food anyway? Doesn’t it taste like nothing in his mouth too? It’s not even real meat.” He asked, covering his nose.
Onew chuckled again at the innocent newborn next to him. “Heh. He’s not like us, Taemin. He’s weaker than us-even weaker than you, and yet he’s even older than you are. He’s not a newborn like you, but he’s not fully a vampire like we both are. He’s the stupid kind that refuses to give up his life up after being turned. Probably didn’t even know what was going on when whoever turned him turned him. He’s still trying to be like a human and is still clinging onto thinking that he’s still alive when he isn’t. He’s trying to pretend to be a human still-going out during the day and doing stupid things like work, school and conversing with humans without drinking from them. The reason why he smells like shit, but you can still smell blood on him, is because vampires like him often put their blood in human goods so they can eat it in front of humans. Normally this method is only used in desperate times because it ruins the deliciousness of blood, but this vampire seems to have gotten used to it.” He explained after a moment. “The stranger part about him is that the fact that he’s in such close contact with a human. And not just any human, but that police officer.” He added, more to himself.
Taemin glanced up quickly. “Huh? Officer Hyung? He was the Jonghyun who was on the phone? B-but if Officer Hyung’s the only human that’s crazy enough to believe in vampires…do you think that the reason why he’s been so quick to suspect us is because he already knows that vampires exist because of him?” He asked, quietly.
Onew shook his head a little bit before slowly lurking a bit closer towards the other vampire by the luggage claim. “He doesn’t know. After you turn a hundred years of being dead, a hundred years from now, you’ll be able to learn how to read humans’ minds. Our officer has been trying his best to keep denying that fact that he believes in vampires since we first started toying with him. Now we’re just playing with his head to make him feel insane.” He answered, not taking his eyes off of the new vampire to look towards his newborn as he spoke.
Aware of the fact that he wasn’t having any attention paid to him, Taemin pouted a little bit, but only a second passed before he ended up asking another question. “Then why is he so close with Officer Hyung then? Of all humans that it’d be dangerous to be close to, wouldn’t the half-insane Officer Hyung be the worst and most dangerous? What’s he thinking? Isn’t he being just a bit too careless?”
Onew shrugged before crawling even closer towards the baggage claim. “I dunno, and I won’t know until I find out. I think it’s time that we introduce ourselves now anyway. We are brothers bound by blood aren’t we? Hopefully we can give him a good scare just for fun…” He muttered, moving closer yet.
~
Kibum shivered a little after a moment and rubbed his arms. Seoul was really much colder than he remembered and even colder than L.A. Suddenly, he caught a faint noise of something coming towards him, and his ear flinched backwards, listening closely. As the cause of the noise came closer, he could begin to catch a scent, and his eyes flickered around in the darkness looking everywhere he could. The cause of the scent was extremely recognizable and this was no mistake. He breathed slightly harder, and his heart would have beaten forcefully against his chest if it still even beat as he continued looking around, waiting for the older vampire to attack him.
“Where are you?” Kibum finally asked, against the darkness, as the scent stopped moving closer and the presence of the other became overwhelming. “I know you’re here, but I can’t see you.” He said again. “You’re obviously older than me, you’re really good at hiding yourself. So? What is it that you want? Or are you just lurking in the darkness for fun? I may look and smell like a human, but I’m not okay? You can’t drink from me if that’s what you wanted.” He stated, trying not to sound as scared as he was, but knew it was useless because even he could smell the scent of fear that he was leaking into the air.
There was a slight chuckle and the bush nearest to Kibum’s left rattled quickly as something inside of it began to stir. Kibum wheeled around to look at in a matter of seconds, raising his fist in front of his face in the best way his fear could allow himself to defend himself. He was huffing quickly, air cold in his chest as there was suddenly the beginning of something emerging. Suddenly, there was a loud blare of sirens and before Kibum knew anything he was blinded with the flashing of blue and red lights, and he had to leap backwards suddenly as a police car began speeding towards him crazily, swerving last moment as not to hit him.
“Holy schniiit! What the hell!?” Kibum shouted quickly as he nearly stumbled on his suitcase after leaping backwards so that he would not be hit by the crazy police car.
Suddenly, Kibum’s question was answered by the driver’s side door was kicked open by someone in tight dark denim jeans and black boots. The silhouette of the one who had been driving finally stepped out, removing a bullet-proof helmet from his head and swishing his brunette hair as it was freed from being contained under the helmet. Kibum was only left blinking, still panting from being frightened.
“Freeze, by order of the police!” The silhouette shouted quickly, in a voice purposely deepened as to not give away his identity, but quickly pulling out his police officer badge and held it out in front of him, showing it to Kibum. Kibum panted still but barely believed his eyes and fell backwards more onto his suitcase as he glanced above the name on the badge to find himself looking eye to eye with the pupposuar that was Kim Jonghyun.
Jonghyun smirked to himself as he admired how cool he looked himself, but however, the moment that his eyes fell upon the boy in front of him, he stopped completely. As his eyes slowly fell upon Kibum again, his breath was knocked out of his chest. He had most definitely changed since before he had left for America…and not even in a bad way. He had always been incredibly gorgeous, this was true-but now he was just…deadly. The always tall boy seemed to have grown even taller over the time (which kind of broke the shorter Jonghyun’s heart a little, but he had to admit he looked damn fine), and now stretched him evenly through his thin and lithe build. His hair was a shining dark brown and fell down onto his face; covering parts of his impossibly pitch black sharp and feline eyes. His perfect porcelain white skin appeared so smooth and white as it stretched over his high cheek bones and defined facial features that made it look like smooth white ice, contrasting against his blood red lips. The content smirk that appeared on his proud face as he finally caught his breath and looked at Jonghyun again only made it worse. Looking at Kibum almost felt like a sin itself. As if Jonghyun was looking eye-to-eye with the very face of temptation. A temptation that Jonghyun couldn’t resist. Kibum looked as if he was sin itself, but Jonghyun couldn’t look away.
Kibum glanced over his shoulder as he noticed the scent of the other vampire had suddenly disappeared. He swallowed slightly to himself and wondered who the other vampire was, but suddenly found himself too distracted with Jonghyun to care about the other vampire. He only turned back to Jonghyun to find him frozen with his beauty before becoming more confident. He only smirked more contently at the older boy’s frozenness before flicking his hair behind his ear, causing for the reflection of the red and blue police lights to shine, and looking back at Jonghyun with the upmost pride painted against his beautiful face. “Huh…I thought that I was the one who was supposed to freeze for the police. Is there a problem here, officer?” The diva asked, smirking sexily.
Jonghyun was only left blinking. Kibum was always gorgeous, but to this extent-shouldn’t it be illegal? Shouldn’t he be arresting him for being too sexy for the good of all people? He couldn’t believe that any human in this world could be so sinfully gorgeous, and yet there in front of him was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen before. However, it seemed that Kibum had managed to grow accustomed to his own beauty and wasn’t frozen himself, thus taking Jonghyun’s badge out of the stunned police officer’s hands and browsing over it with his eyes.
“Hnn, I guess I can’t blame you for admiring it…I am beautiful as always…” He muttered, before turning the badge around in his hands and grazing his eyes over it. “Wah….I guess the badge makes it official. You’re actually a police officer-what a surprise. I guess that I’m glad though, because now if I’m ever in trouble or I need help-I can call you and you’ll come. It’s a lot better than the American police, or even the regular police-it’s a good thing that I’m here again. Another reason to be glad to be back.” He said, admiring the badge and flipping it around in his hands.
Jonghyun swallowed the best that he could, and blinked a few more times before building just enough strength to attempt speaking. After so many years of missing Kibum and secretively loving him through all the years that he had not heard a word from or of him, there he was. Standing in front of him in his full beauty, talking to him like he would have when they were still together three years ago. “K-Key…Kibum…you’re-” He managed to stutter out slowly, but couldn’t go on.
Kibum was still holding the badge in his hands, but looked back up at Jonghyun again. “Back.” He finished, smiling lightly at the older boy as he placed the police badge in his front pocket on his police jacket and patted it gently as he set it there.
Jonghyun could only nod at that before swallowing nervously again. “Y-yae…” Was all that he could say at the moment. “You’re back…”
Kibum half smiled and nodded slightly. “Yes. I’m back. I’m finally back. I’m-mmn…” It wasn’t known who had done it first, or if they had both moved together at the same time, but the next thing either of them knew, they were both hugging each other close to themselves, holding each other so tightly that there wasn’t the slightest bit of space between the two boy’s chests. Kibum let his eyes shut slowly, as he felt himself being pulled close, and let out a quiet breath as he nuzzled his nose and lips against the crook Jonghyun’s neck, inhaling lightly. “Jong…I missed you…” He whispered quietly, feeling himself being lured closer and closer to Jonghyun’s neck by his warmth and smell, but as well as the comfort of being close to him again after so many years of being apart from his best friend. “I missed you so much…did you miss me?” He asked, nuzzling closer yet to Jonghyun’s warmth.
Jonghyun couldn’t hold it back any longer. Kibum was so close in his arms again after so long-he allowed himself to smile widely before pulling Kibum as close as the laws of gravity and force allowed before squeezing him tightly and shaking him around playfully. “Did I miss you? Did I miss you!? I dreamed of you every night, I thought of you every day. When we lost contact with each other I stayed up an extra thirty minutes praying to every god I knew, for you to be safe and okay. Did I miss you? I missed you so much that I can’t even begin to explain it….” He whispered happily, closing his eyes for a moment.
Kibum half laughed quietly, but couldn’t get himself to stop resting his lips and nose against Jonghyun’s neck. “You did? R-really?” He asked, quietly. “But…I thought that you would be furious at me for not contacting you for a year and a half. You...don’t hate me for suddenly not speaking to you? I was so scared that you would become so pissed off at me that when I came back, you wouldn’t want to see me again-let alone talk with me again after it all. I’m really relieved…” He half smiled lightly before pressing his lips more against Jonghyun’s neck. “…I don’t know what I would have done if you suddenly started hating me all of a sudden. You…just mean too much to me. I really did get back to Korea as soon as I could, you know. I didn’t want to be apart from you for that long…I just had no choice. Please don’t be upset with me….” He added, smelling Jonghyun again.
Jonghyun half smiled as he rested his chin against Kibum’s shoulder and placed his palm against the younger’s shoulder-blade. Whether he had really forgotten completely about the fact that he and Kibum hadn’t been together for almost three years and that they had both agreed to see other people, meaning that they were no longer together, and that he had no idea about how Kibum felt about him anymore, or that he just didn’t even care about any of the technical things anymore-he simply just said it. Said what he was thinking. What he was feeling. “How could I be angry with you? I love you…” He whispered, quietly.
Kibum seemed to freeze completely and stayed still in Jonghyun’s arms, his lips and nose brushing off of his neck, and his eyes opening again. “Y-you…you still love me?” He whispered quietly, trying not to allow himself to blush at the words. “…you haven’t seen other people? You haven’t already moved on without me?” He asked, quietly.
Jonghyun felt himself become a little shaky and nervous as Kibum asked him the questions. He hadn’t thought thoroughly before revealing the fact that he was still in love with Kibum, but it was too late now. Kibum already knew that he loved him-it was probably obviously painted across his face. All that mattered at that moment was being truthful and just expressing everything. He half smiled and nodded uneasily after a moment as he continued to hold onto Kibum, this time loosely. “Mn. I still love you. I still love you so much. I still love you as much as the first day we got together, and the last time we were together. I never stopped loving you…” He whispered, quietly.
Kibum made a quiet noise before shifting quickly, and the next thing that Jonghyun knew-their lips were tied together. He couldn’t even really react at all. All he knew was that Kibum was kissing him, after so many years. And that it felt amazing. His eyes slowly shut themselves without his consent and his hand pushed up Kibum’s back until they were securely fitted together. Kibum’s lips were cold and soft like smooth ice under and between his own. Even, the entire of the younger boy’s body felt cold in his arms, but it felt so good to hold him close and try to warm him up in his arms. The longer the kiss went on, the more Jonghyun felt himself falling more into it. It felt almost the same as before. Kibum now not only looked like the image of sin-but tasted like it. Felt like it. Jonghyun didn’t think that he could ever stop until he suddenly felt Kibum jerk his head back quickly, releasing them from their lip-lock as if he was trying to stop himself as well, before smiling at the older boy lightly.
“I love you too, Kim Jonghyun. I always have loved you too. I’m…so, so happy that I’ve finally come back home. S-so glad that I’m with you again…” Kibum said quietly, as he backed away from the older boy’s lips. “The whole time I was in America-I really, really missed you.” He admitted. “I just wanted to be with you again. The whole entire time.”
Jonghyun stopped completely before looking up quickly. “H-huh!? You still love me-then! You…you didn’t completely forget about me and replace me with an American boyfriend?” He asked quickly, coming out sounding a little more excited than he had really meant to sound, but only smiled wider as Kibum shook his head. Jonghyun kept his happy smile as he glanced Kibum over one more time. “B-but you’re so beautiful-I really figured that by the second month you’d replace me easily and forget about me because you got yourself a 213cm tall, 76kg, American boyfriend with hairy arms, a mustache, lots of money, a red sports car, named Alfredo! You mean-you didn’t forget about your 173cm, artificially blonde, Korean boyfriend, who was still living in his dorm when you left him!?” He asked quickly.
At this Kibum began laughing. “Seven foot tall boyfriend with hairy arms named Alfredo!?” He asked quickly, trying his best to keep himself from cracking up. “You’ve watched trashy American soap-operas, haven’t you!? Alfredo? You do realize that Alfredo is a type of sauce that you put on things like pasta and chicken, don’t you? You really have an amazingly stupid imagination sometimes, Jonggie!”
Jonghyun only smiled widely but slowly wrapped his arms around Kibum’s waist stealthily. “Well…it was either that or you were having a spicy affair with the vineyard worker outside of your Spanish styled adobe mansion. But I figured you’re more modern and would go for the sports car…” He muttered, moving closer again.
Kibum smiled and put his hand on Jonghyun’s right cheek. “Hnn…well, there were a lot of guys in America who were interested in me, I must say. And you’re right. A lot of them were really tall, rich, most of them did drive sports cars-oh, and god knows they were hairy.” He muttered, but only smiled more as Jonghyun held him closer. “But…how could I go with any of them? I had you in my mind….they were nothing compared to you. How could I fall in love with anyone else?” He asked, happily.
Jonghyun smiled contently at this, but suddenly, as Kibum placed his thin hand against his cheek, shivered a little. He stopped staring in his eyes before glancing towards his hand on his cheek and slowly took his hand to cup around Kibum’s, pulling it off of his cheek and holding it closely in his own. “Key…you’re dead cold. Are you okay? You’re hands feel like ice. Are you cold?” He asked after a moment, staring at Kibum’s hand closely.
Kibum glanced away uneasily before quickly yanking his hand out of Jonghyun’s grasp and staring down at the floor. “I-I…ugh….I’m fine! It’s just-you know I’ve always had poor circulation. My hands are always cold like this.” He lied quietly, trying to cover the fact that his body no longer held warmth anymore.
Jonghyun made a face similar to a puppy who had just gotten its favorite chewy toy taken away from him, before pawing for Kibum’s hand again, this time catching it and holding it more securely. “Y-yeah, but it doesn’t seem natural for a human’s hands to be so cold-it’s like dead cold. I’m worried. Do you wanna go somewhere? Or at least get in the car? I don’t want you to freeze.” He muttered after a moment, bringing Kibum’s hands between both of his and raising them to his mouth, breathing on them before rubbing them together to try to get blood circulating.
Kibum still seemed uneasy about how quickly Jonghyun had noticed that his body temperature was indeed far below the normality of a living human being, and that in fact he was as cold as someone would be if they were dead-because, in fact, he was dead. He pressed his lips together tightly, trying to find a way to get off the subject before letting out a breath. “Actually…I am cold. I do want to go. Can-we go home?” He asked, after a moment.
Jonghyun looked up from breathing on Kibum’s hand before glancing back into his eyes. “Home? Did you buy a house here again? I thought that you left your dorm before you went to America in the first place. Do you have somewhere to go?” He asked, after a moment.
This was only answered by a content and almost suggestive smile coming to Kibum’s face. “Well…no, I don’t have anywhere to go. That is-unless you’ll take me home with you.” He said quietly, glancing away from him, but keeping his sexy expression.
At this all Jonghyun could do was swallow nervously, but without a word slipped Kibum’s hand into his right hand and pulled him towards the car determinedly.
Taemin stayed silent as he watched the couple get into the police car, and as Jonghyun immediately turned on his sirens and speed away to tend to his own type of emergency before looking back towards Onew with big eyes. “H-huh? Officer Hyung and the other vampire are in a relationship!? The other vampire wasn’t just going to drink him and be done with it? How does this work, Hyung? Can a human and a vampire really be allowed to be in love?” He asked, quickly.
Onew glanced away from what was still visible of the red and blue lights of the police car before glancing back towards his newborn. “One of humans’ biggest misconceptions of vampires is that there are rules and a top-gun leader of us all. There’s no rule saying that a human and a vampire can’t be in love. It’s just-it’s almost like a law of physics. No matter how much the vampire loves its mortal, it’s like a human holding a piece of chicken in their hand and kissing it while they are starving-without eating or even tasting it. It just doesn’t last.” He explained, but smirked. “Even though our brother there has no intentions of feeding off of the police officer, it won’t be long until he can’t resist anymore. Especially if they have a close physical relationship. It doesn’t matter how much he loves the officer-he’ll wind up dead and emptied give or take a week, and then we’ll have no one to play with anymore.” He muttered.
Taemin made a face before glancing back towards where the car had driven off to. “O-oh…” He muttered, quietly. “I guess I understand….it’s just sad. Not just for Officer Hyung, but for the other vampire, too. It’d be so hard to be so close to Officer Hyung’s neck like he was-I don’t think I would have been able to resist being so close to his veins, even if I loved him. I’ll feel bad for poor Vampire Hyung if he has no other choice as to drink from the one he loves…” He muttered.
Onew made a face. “Hm. The worst of it all is that if he does just empty him tonight, we won’t have anyone else to toy with. But, then again, if he does resist…this game has only gotten even more entertaining. C’mon, Taemin. I’m hungry, aren’t you? We should eat something and then introduce ourselves to our new brother later tonight. Let’s get going while the night is still young.” He muttered, getting up from his spot to lead his newborn into the city to find something to drink.
