Summary: Police officer Kim Jonghyun's life was turned upside down by the mysterious murders conducted in his area of Seoul, and by the fact that there were absolutely no leads pointing towards any killers. Or at least--any human killers. Jonghyun struggles with himself as he realizes that he might as well be insane for the he is the only one how could ever believe...In vampires. Meanwhile, if the doubts of his own sanity trouble his mind weren't enough to drive him offically insane, the fact that his college boyfriend Kim Kibum suddenly returns home to Korea from America, holding a secert of his own may be enough to do it.
PART TWO:
HERE Kibum sighed heavily as he dropped onto the couch as he finished bandaging up his hurt right hand. Jonghyun had finally left about half an hour ago to go back to his work (it took forever for Kibum to finally be able to manage to convince him that he was perfectly fine by himself for the few hours that he had to be at the station), and Kibum looked over his hand carefully. He didn’t know how he managed to get by without Jonghyun noticing that his blood was in fact…different than human blood. He knew that when he broke the vase and made himself bleed even more than before, he was taking a risk, but he was lucky that his tears had distracted Jonghyun from the blood enough for him not to notice. Kibum blew on his hand slowly as he wiped the blood away from his fingertips and wrist where Onew had cut him. He sighed once again as he moved the skin around on his wrist, staring at the bright red blood on his wrist, but not helping but noticed the small silvery grains that were just barely noticeable under the light. He hated being a vampire. Hated it.
~
After a few moments of hating himself, though, Kibum got himself up from where he had been sitting. He could sit there and mope all day, or he could actually get up and do something with his limitless energy. He rubbed the back of his neck as he looked around the poorly attemptively cleaned apartment room (Jonghyun had scampered around as quickly as possible, kicking things out of the way as he first led Kibum into his unexpecting-company apartment). He could clean up or something. He remembered how he used to clean their dorm every day when he and Jonghyun had lived together before he went to America. Perhaps he should clean. It had been so long since he had anyone to clean for. Thus, he pulled up his sleeves and got to work after turning on the radio and cleaned the entire apartment while listening to whatever recently popular song that came on (He missed Korean music, he hadn’t heard any since he had gone to America and began to tire of American music after a while).
~~~
A few hours later, Kibum was still vacuuming the small apartment peacefully, when there was an angry growl from a small balcony across the street, sounding under held breath that no longer had to be cycled. “What?? He’s still ignoring me!? I told him to look me up and threatened him with all but breaking his little freakin’ bones and all he does is ignore me and cleans out that freaking Officer’s refrigerator!? What the hell is with this kid!?!” Onew snapped agitatedly.
Taemin whined quietly and covered his nose as he stared at the window Kibum had opened to let the cold winter air in (he hadn’t been able to figure out how to turn off the heater and the artificial heat was making him sick) with teary eyes. “U-ugh…I don’t know…b-but, Hyung, can’t we leave already!? What on earth is Vampire-Hyung doing? What’s in Officer-Hyung’s fridge? I-it smells terrible! What is it, garlic?” He whined, fanning the air in front of his face.
Onew only sighed and kept staring at Kibum with annoyed and impatient eyes. “No, that’s just bad tuna that we noticed the officer making two months ago when we started stalking him, but…I….augh! I’m so damn annoyed with this kid!! What do I have to do to get at him? I just sprained his wrist and he still doesn’t respect me! What do I have to do, break his weak little bones!? Because I’m starting to consider it!” He snapped with annoyance.
Taemin only sighed at this. “I thought you were only interested in playing around with Officer-Hyung? Why are you so worked up because of Vampire-Hyung? Shouldn’t we be watching whatever Officer-Hyung is doing at work right now?” He asked, but only got a quiet growl from Onew as he didn’t take his eyes off of Kibum, so he sighed again. “You smell weird too, Hyung. You’ve smelt that way since Vampire-Hyung has shown up. Your emotions are weird smelling…” He added.
~~
About two hours later, the whole apartment was shining brightly and as clean as it had ever been before. “There.” Kibum muttered, placing a handful of freshly sharpened pencils in Jonghyun’s desk’s pencil holder as he finished organizing his boyfriend’s workspace. “Cleanliness is really important for humans, since they’re so prone to getting sickness and disease. I’ve used a bunch of disinfectant spray on everything too, and organized everything for him. Now he shouldn’t get sick. It’s important for him to keep his health.” He muttered, bending to tie the trash-bag’s top together. However, when he bent, something caught the corner of his eye.
“Hmn? A notebook?” Kibum asked, as he bent to pick up the small black book he noticed under the desk. “Why would Jonghyun keep a notebook behind the back shelf of his desk? It’s almost like he’s trying to keep it secret or something. But, that’s weird for Jonghyun. He lived alone until now, and he’s never kept anything from me before. Maybe it’s work related. What else would he be keeping secret?” He thought, turning the book in his hands, before, not even two minutes later, Kibum, being the curious busybody that he was, didn’t even have to think twice before flipping it open and looking at the first two pages of the journal.
Inside the small black notebook, Kibum found a neat journal, organized by date and relations, in actually legible handwriting. It only took a few words for Kibum to realize that the entries were the neat records of Jonghyun’s works as a policeman, reporting about all he had done as part of his job. Kibum became interested instantly as he glanced through the rather courageous things that his boyfriend had apparently done (unless this was all just a fiction/dream journal that Jonghyun wrote to keep his job more interesting), as he flipped a few pages, finding his eyes caught on a entry about getting hijacked in his police car.
10.1.5
…being a police-man has given me many times where I have felt very courageous and proud of my works…but today wasn’t the best example of one of these days. Something about holding onto Minho as if my dear life depended on how tightly I could wrap my arms around his waist, screaming my head off doesn’t really show off the perks of my braveness as a cop. Wasn’t my shining-star-fearless-cop moment.
Kibum laughed as he skipped a few pages. “Damn, every single page is filled with something to do with the pride of being a cop…” He noted as he flipped through a few more pages. “…what is it? Like, Jonghyun’s backup manpride? Heh, no wonder he let me top without a word of complaint last night…he had his ‘cop’ pride to fall back on!” Kibum sniggered to himself evilly, before something suddenly caught his eye and he began reading through it almost immediately.
I don’t really know how to explain the victim I found today. It was the most gruesome and wrong murder I have seen since I first joined the police-force. Just the sight of him made my skin crawl and a sick feeling come to my stomach. This victim was very nearly completely torn apart. His neck muscles and veins were just…gone. I’ve never seen such wounds before, I don’t know what I should make of this. While the rest of his body suffered substantial damages, his neck, wrists and most vital points were just…shredded. His whole entire chest and stomach area was covered in holes and gashes and the weirdest part was…there was really little blood. For suffering such wounds to such vital points, there should have been far more blood than found. We couldn’t even find any DNA, but it’s still under research. I hope we can find whoever did this quickly…whoever it is is truly sick.
Kibum swallowed the nervous lump that had arose in his throat as he read over Jonghyun’s first impressions on a murder that was obviously committed by a vampire. He licked his dry lips in attempts to keep himself composed as he flipped a few more pages.
No DNA, no blood, no fingerprints. Whoever is doing this is impossible to track, but this is his 3rd victim in the last month. The holes and gashes in the victim’s bodies are deep, and we still can’t find a weapon match. Who is doing all of this? How? And more importantly, why?
Kibum nervously flipped the page again.
I won’t sit around and wait for the next innocent person to die this time. Not after this kid. This poor kid. He was only sixteen years old. Sixteen. He still had his entire life in front of him, and had so much to live. I can’t sit and wait for this sicko to hurt and kill another innocent life. The marks on his neck and body were just so deep. The gashes don’t look like normal cuts…they’re deeper…more rugged. They look like…bites. The vital vessels are all completely gone and torn from the body…are they…eaten? Is this the work of an animal? But we would have found fur or some sort of trace. Whoever is doing this….they are less humane than any animal. I will find them. Whoever they might be. And I’ll stop them from hurting anyone else.
Kibum couldn’t even try to swallow this time. All he could do was allow for the lump in his throat to grow, and for him to stare nervously at the pages. His heart ached for so many different reasons that he could barely think straight. He was stuck with the grief of the life lost of the innocent kid, love for Jonghyun’s dedication towards all people, and with the shame of being what he was. All he could do was flip to the next page, and continue to try to keep himself together.
It’s definitely not an animal. No creature of such wild capability could live in the city and not be found by anyone….there’s just no DNA to even try to trace. Not on any of the victims. Not a single trace. But what kind of person is capable of doing such things without leaving even a slight trace of their DNA behind? What kind of weapon could do such damage to the veins and organs in the neck?
The next page was not an entry as much as it was just words from Jonghyun’s mind, written as he thought onto the paper.
Not knife wounds…not bullet wounds…not surgical tool wounds….fingernails? Claws? …fangs? Fangs…..fangs….
The next page scared Kibum more than anything he had read yet:
Today’s victim was the 7th. The wound, lack of blood, the two deep holes in the right side of his neck leading to the veins…they all point to the same result. To the same suspect. To the same undeniable answer I know that everyone is too afraid to think too loudly. I can’t hold it anymore. The wounds are caused by Fangs. They are from fangs, and the gashes are from claws. But the fangs and claws are not from animals…..vampire. Am I insane? I surely must be, but it can’t be helped. All signs lead to it.
Kibum couldn’t believe what he had just read. No way. There was no way…but…Jonghyun knew. He already believed in them. But how? How could he have really guessed honestly about them? Kibum had been sure that there was no human that remained stupid enough to actually be someone in such a mature position as a police officer and yet still be insane enough to believe in vampires (even if it was taken into consideration that this was Kim Jonghyun we are talking about here). If Jonghyun really believed in vampires enough to suspect Onew and his newborn-could Jonghyun ever come to suspect him? If he was as careless as he was last night…would Jonghyun find out about him? How much did Jonghyun know? He quickly flipped the page in the notebook and quickly scanned over the last entry in the journal.
Minho came to me today with an important case. A case that takes my human heart, despite all of the tragedy it has seen and already learned to deal with, and breaks it, makes me feel weak. A child has been kidnapped, and even more, possibly murdered. As it is, this case has been suspicious enough, but this kid puts the frosting on the cake. There’s no mistaking it. This has been committed by the same sicko who has been conducting such gruesome murders lately. The same sicko I have been chasing for the last few months, and haven’t been able to trace any DNA to…..the vampire. But, the weirdest thing is, even though even Minho could identify this as the same murder (same type of location, estimated occurrence time, and the same traces of damage taken to the neck, and very minimal blood left behind)….there is no body. And because of this fact….everything inside of me tells me that this innocent little kid has not died yet. We’ve found rips of the collar of his shirt covered in his blood, and….saliva. What am I supposed to think? No body, but all the evidence states the same. The victim, this innocent and promising seventeen year old…this bright and happy boy, is not dead. Lee Taemin, I know what has happened to you…and I will find you
Kibum froze completely where he was as he read the name in the notebook in front of him. “L-Lee Taemin…? Th-that’s….tha-that’s the name of that bastard’s newborn!” He stuttered out, suddenly out of breath as he remembered the blonde headed sunny boy who he had seen just a few hours ago. “That sick bastard’s newborn is the innocent child! Worse yet…Jonghyun’s still trying to find him! He knows that he’s not dead! Dammit, I knew that kid was young, but…four days old?” He asked quickly.
~~~
Onew looked up as quickly as possible as he heard Kibum’s realization. “WHAT!?! Seriously!?! He’s freaking out about you!?! I all but break his wrist, and all he does is completely ignore my very existence, but you just have to be mention once in that officer’s journal and he freaks out!? The whole freaking journal is about me!!” He snapped loudly.
Taemin sighed as he patted his hyung’s back half-sympathetically, but kept his eyes in Kibum’s general direction. “Hyung…I know that we’re being a lot more obvious with our hunts and catches in order to get into Officer-Hyung’s head so we can play with him, but….is it really okay for Vampire-Hyung to know all of this? What if he helps and tells Officer-Hyung too much? What can we do then?” He asked, after a moment.
Onew smirked at Taemin’s comments after a moment, pulling his eyes away from Kibum’s direction for the first time in hours. “And risk his precious human finding out about him? No, he’d never do that. Besides, even if he does come out and tells the officer about us, there’s no way we can be caught. Little Brother doesn’t know about any of our whereabouts, and he can’t rat us out. We find him, not the reverse.” He answered, confidently.
Taemin nodded slowly as he accepted his hyung’s opinion, before glancing back towards Kibum. “I guess so, Hyung. I just wonder if he might actually do it or not. If he’s willing to do anything to help Officer-Hyung, it’s possible that he might risk himself and tell him about himself and us too, isn’t it? I just don’t want to underestimate them.” He answered, after a moment.
Onew only smirked at this though. “Ha, you don’t give me enough credit yet, my young Taeminnie. I’ve been doing this for years already. There’s no way for the officer to track us, and there’s no way for our brother over there to sell us out and be able to catch us. My senses are stronger and better than his, there’s no way he can fool me into getting caught, and even if he himself is caught, there’s no way to trace us to him. We’re completely covered.” He reassured.
Taemin glanced away from Onew and glanced back towards Jonghyun’s apartment building. “Hmn, I guess so. Maybe I’m just being too paranoid…” He muttered, quietly.

Jonghyun sighed as he dropped his head onto the heavy stack of papers in front of him. He loved his job, but who’ve known that there would be so much paperwork? In front of him was the biggest stack of information he had had ever had for a single case, filled with info after info, contact after contact, suspect after suspect, everything that he could find, all relating to Lee Taemin. He was up to his ears with information of the kid, and yet, he still had zero leads besides one complete dead-end. It was like the kid disappeared into thin air, and yet, even that seemed more believable to the normal person that what was going through Jonghyun’s mind at the current moment. How could it be that the one and only person who came anywhere close to matching to the DNA found on Taemin’s clothes…could have been reported to have died thirty years ago? Jonghyun sighed out his frustration and dropped his head back down onto the soft padding of the many manila folders set on his desk.
“Tired?” A sudden, deep and serious voice asked after a moment from behind Jonghyun, and the smell of hot coffee was soon filling Jonghyun’s nostrils as he heard a paper cup being set on his desk and pushed over to him.
“Mnnuogh, a little…” Jonghyun muttered, keeping his head against the folders as Minho pushed the cup to him before taking a seat near him on the side of his desk.
“Heh, I can see that your ‘significant other’ returned last night…” Minho remarked after just a moment of silence, jabbing Jonghyun in a particularly sensitive spot on his neck, while the other was left completely unaware of the size of the hickey that had been left on the side of his neck from the last night.
“Mmngh, that too…” Jonghyun muttered quietly, covering the side of his neck from Minho’s ruthless jabbing and rubbing it soothingly.
Minho half laughed quietly at this, before plucking a long, golden hair off of Jonghyun’s police jacket and looking it over closely. “A blonde?” He asked after a moment, holding up the hair while Jonghyun continued to keep his forehead against the folders.
“Hmnn? Nah. The most beautiful of brunettes. But, why do you ask?” He asked after a moment of picturing Kibum in his mind.
Minho stopped and glanced up from the long strand of blonde hair in his hand, back towards Jonghyun. “Brunette? Well, it’s a good thing I found you first then, huh? Are you two-timing, Hyung?” He asked, smiling contently.
Jonghyun stopped resting his head against the folders and glanced up upon hearing this. “Huhh?? No. Why would you ask something like that?” He asked quickly, staring at Minho with confused eyes.
Minho half smiled at his guilty hyung as he held up the hair for Jonghyun to see. “Did I catch you?” He asked, smugly.
Jonghyun’s confused expression only became even more confused as he slowly took the blonde hair from Minho’s hand. “No…I haven’t ever cheated on my Bummie. I couldn’t ever. And, moreover, I don’t even know any blondes with long hair…(not since Heechul-hyung has dyed his hair)…” He murmured, staring closely at the hair.
Minho continued looking at the long blonde hair in Jonghyun’s hand. “Then, if that’s the case, where do you think the hair came from then? There’s no one in the office today with that kind of hair.” He asked.
Jonghyun only twirled the hair around in his fingers. “I don’t know. Unless the hair was on Bummie’s clothes, I have no idea how it could have gotten there…” He murmured, lost in thought.
~~~
Onew stopped staring at the police station and turned his head towards the company he was in as he heard this. He had just left the apartment where Kibum was, in order to keep his tabs on Jonghyun open, and it seemed he had very opportune timing. However, as he heard the two officers speaking to each other, he took in a slow breath and turned his head back to look at Taemin (who continued to sit behind the tinted windows of their black van), as the younger swallowed with audible nervousness and tucked his long blonde hair behind his black hood.
“Taemin…” Onew started, after a long moment, and, as good as Taemin’s hearing was, the younger could not make out whether or not it was a furious tone, threatening tone, or a really proud tone. “Get a little too close to your ‘Vampire-Hyung’ last night? Decide to go and leave your supposed-to-be-dead DNA on the officer’s jacket?” He asked, slowly.
Taemin swallowed his nervousness the best he could as he rubbed the still fresh scars the older had left on his neck a few days ago, as they began to sting a little. “Umn…mmgh…I really didn’t mean to, Hyung! I didn’t know it would leave any traces on him! H-he just smelt so much like a human and…m-my stupid long hair! Oh please, don’t be upset with me, Hyung!” He cried nervously, pulling on his long hair miserably.
Onew kept his eyes straight on Taemin as he sat in silence for a long moment. “Taemin-ah, do you have any idea…how interesting this makes everything!? Do you have any idea what it’ll do to the officer’s mind if you and traces of you suddenly start showing up only in front of his eyes!? I’m so proud of you, Taeminnie! I have taught you so well how to fuck with the officer’s mind! You are my precious newborn!” He suddenly said, proudly praising the nervous Taemin and messing up his hair proudly.
Taemin let out his held breath and un-tensed his posture as Onew praised him. He had really begun to worry that Onew was going to punish him, and actually began to become scared of the older man. He had acted so roughly with Kibum that morning, Taemin had quietly been a little afraid of his turner since that morning. “I-is that so…? H-heh, th-then that’s good then, Hyung…” He stuttered, scratching the back of his not-itchy neck and laughing nervously.
Onew only smiled as he continued patting Taemin’s back. “My good, smart child.” He continued, already laughing at Jonghyun’s misfortune.
~~~~
“…it could have been one of Kibum’s friends. There are a lot of blonde people in America, of course.” Jonghyun thought, as he packed up his stuff for the day. “It just must have come off of his clothes and got onto my jacket when he hugged me or something. Plus, Bummie said that he ironed it for me this morning, so it must of fallen off of him, onto my jacket while he was ironing it. Mn…that makes sense I think…” He concluded, making his way out of the office and waving goodbye to Minho as he made his way out.
“Hah, I’m bothering myself too much. Of course it came from Kibum. There are a lot of blonde westerners. I just must have been thinking about that Taemin kid too much today…hahaha, what am I doing? I should hurry up and get home to Kibummie…” Jonghyun muttered to himself as he walked out to his car, but as he opened up the door to his car and noticed a small strand of long blonde hair placed just oh-too-innocently on the driver’s seat, he nearly tripped.
