>Part 1< The next weekend Jonghyun found himself waiting outside of Hogwarts for a certain black-haired Slytherin, a thick Jacket making him seem slightly bulkier than he actually was and a red and yellow striped Gryffindor scarf wrapped around his neck tightly. It had gotten slightly colder again much to the brunette’s dismay but that didn’t stop him from wanting to go to Hogsmeade, not knowing if the potential new broom or his company made him look forward to this trip more than usual.
“Seriously, who goes to Hogsmeade at this time?” Kibum complained as he stepped outside the castle, shivering and pulling his coat closer to his slender body, nuzzling more into his big, dark grey round scarf.
Jonghyun just grinned and shrugged. “Dunno, I just wanna get the new broom and hopefully be able to create a patronus afterwards.”
The younger sighed, his shoulders dropping slightly. “Fine, let's get going then.”
Jonghyun had to admit the walk to the small town was rather cold but that was okay, they would warm up inside of the small stores again.
As soon as he saw the broom he wanted in the shop’s display window his heart skipped a beat and he scurried inside, Kibum following with a roll of his eyes, a bag of herbs in his hand and his nose slightly red from the cold.
Yes, Jonghyun was happy and yes, he was excited to sign a paper that the broom would be delivered to him within the next few days per owl shipment but as he tried to create another patronus once they had left the shop his excitement was replaced by disappointment as it still didn’t work, not even a spark, nothing.
Kibum pursed his lips, trying not to let show that he kind of felt bad for the older who looked like a kicked puppy, looking at his wand gloomily. He honestly had no idea why it didn’t work for the other and he did want to help him but he had no idea what else he could do.
“Sorry it didn’t work out,” he said as they were seated in The Three Broomsticks, Jonghyun stirring his butterbeer with a small pout on his lips. He sighed and sat up some more, wrapping his hands around the big glass to warm them up after running around in the cold.
“It’s not like it’s your fault or something,” he said, not looking up. “I guess I’m not a person with happy memories then… and I’ll fail the N.E.W.T.s, great.”
Kibum bit the inside of his cheek, trying to come up with something that could help the older but nothing came to his mind. He didn’t know why he felt like it was his fault and why he wanted to help the other this much. It’s true that he loved teasing Jonghyun and making fun out of him but he wouldn’t want him to fail the most important exam in his life just because he couldn’t help him properly.
He leaned back with a small sigh, staring at his butterbeer like it could solve his problems which it sadly couldn’t.
Jonghyun was still not back to his usual happy, witty self when they were following the path back to Hogwarts, he just stared at the ground with a disappointed pout, kicking some stones like a small child and Kibum had honestly no idea why he felt so bad about this whole situation. Usually he would have mocked the other for being this childish but now… he didn’t know why but it didn’t like the right thing to do and he didn’t want to be the cause for the other’s bad mood.
“So… there isn’t anything else we could try?” he asked, trying to do at least something. He had chosen to help the other after all and he didn’t like backing away from challenges. “Like… is there anything else that could make you happy?” Okay, normally he would never sask this question and he even surprised himself a bit, Jonghyun looking up at him as well, blinking a few times before he thought about the question.
“No… I don’t know anything…”
The younger chewed on his lower lip deep in thought, not knowing if he should voice what was going through his head at the moment. “Do you…” He was digging his own grave. “Have a girlfriend?” he asked, the unsureness in his voice sounding strange and foreign.
Jonghyun furrowed his eyebrows for a moment, shaking his head. “No, I’m gay.”
“Oh,” Kibum said, his voice squeaky and he cringed, Jonghyun’s lips tugging into a small smile but he hid it before the other saw it.
“Why did you ask?”
The Slytherin cleared his throat and played with his scarf, probably wanting to seem not interested but he failed horribly as Jonghyun noticed he was actually being shy about something. Kim Kibum, the snarky Slytherin was being shy about something right in front of his eyes, he couldn’t believe what he was witnessing at the moment and remembered to save this memory forever.
“I just thought… well, if there isn’t anything else that could make you happy maybe you could have done something with your lover or something.”
Jonghyun looked at him blankly. “Are you seriously suggesting that I sleep-”
“Not that, you freak!” Kibum shrieked and slapped the elder’s shoulder, looking at him with big eyes and an expression that was half angry, half humiliated.
This time the Gryffindor did not manage to keep quiet and burst into loud laughter, clutching his stomach and not able to stop even when Kibum hit him a few more times, glaring at him and almost whining.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry,” Jonghyun managed to gasp, slowly calming down from his laughing fit and fanning his face although it was cold but he felt really warm and fuzzy on the inside all of the sudden, Kibum huffing and marching back to school before the older managed to catch up with him again.
“Sorry, but I just had to,” the brunette said when he had finally caught up again, the younger not even sparing him a glance, simply keeping on walking with his nose held high.
“I was just trying to say you could go on a date or whatever,” Kibum finally grumbled. “Not jump each other.”
Jonghyun chuckled again and shook his head. “Sadly I don’t really have someone I could go on a date with.”
“Well, that’s too bad then,” Kibum huffed, only stopping when he noticed Jonghyun wasn’t walking with him anymore, turning around to the older who looked at him oddly. “What? It’s cold, I don’t wanna stand here all day so are you coming?”
Okay, Jonghyun really had absolutely no clue where this sudden idea had come from, crooking his head slightly as he thought about his possibilities and weighed his options, figuring there was no way to predict the outcome without actually going through with this crazy plan, as crazy as it was.
He eyed the younger up and down, appreciating how he was once again frowning at him, his dark eyes looking right into his soul. His nose was still red and the scarf around his neck looked a lot fluffier than the school’s around Jonghyun’s own neck. He bit his lower lip, slowly moving forward and ignoring the way Kibum eyed him suspiciously. He had a right to be suspicious since what Jonghyun was about to do was certainly not something normal rivals would usually do.
WIth one swift movement he grabbed the front of the younger’s coat and pulled him in his direction, making him stumble a few steps but cutting off his protest by pressing his own cold lips against Kibum’s, successfully making him freeze and shut up.
Yes, this certainly was a happy moment, Jonghyun’s heart jumping in excitement and a rush of adrenaline when through his body which he had only felt once before when he had almost fall off his broom but this time it was a good kind of adrenaline, one that made him feel warm and happy, making his blood rush in his ears.
Maybe he just had a strange perception of time, or he had just experienced time manipulation but for him it felt like an eternity, Kibum not making the slightest move to push him away until centuries later when his brain seemed to start working properly and his body responded again, pushing the older away from him and staring at him with big eyes.
“What the hell was that?!” he squeaked, wiping his mouth like he had just eaten something disgusting.
Jonghyun grinned smugly, not feeling sorry in the least. “A kiss?” he provided helpfully, the other staring at him like he had just grown a second head like that one kid a few years ago in their potion class. Something had definitely been wrong with that potion.
“Well, I liked it,” Jonghyun said with a shrug as he didn’t get a response from the other who still looked at him in shock. “I dunno about you but I would do it again.”
Kibum had officially lost his voice, gaping at the Gryffindor and not moving for such a long time that Jonghyun slowly grew worried. Did he break the younger’s mind or something. He stepped closer, looking at him curiously and almost smirked as he noticed a pink blush slowly spreading over the boy’s cheeks, this time not from the cold.
“Would you do it again?” he asked with a crooked eyebrow and a witty grin, watching the younger’s adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed thickly, his resolve slowly crumbling.
“Y-yes,” he breathed out airily, the sound almost carried away by the cold wind before Jonghyun could catch it, the grin spreading on his face before he leaned in again, Kibum’s eyes fluttering close unintentionally.
Suddenly it didn’t seem so cold outside anymore.
“Did you make it?”
Jonghyun looked up in surprise, seeing a certain black-haired Slytherin standing next to him at the table in the Great Hall, peering down at him curiously. The older grinned. “Who do you think I am, of course I made it.”
A scoff escaped the other’s mouth. “Yeah, didn’t look like that two months ago. You still haven’t shown me.”
“Aww, I promise I’ll show you after school, okay?”
Kibum pursed his lips like he actually thought about declining the offer. “About time,” he grumbled. “If it weren’t for me you would have failed the N.E.W.T.s.”
“I know, I’m forever in you debt, buttercup.”
Minho pretended like he didn’t almost choke on his drink, gasping for air and hitting his chest a few times. The other two didn’t even spare him a glance, instead Kibum glared down at the older and whacked his head.
“Sap,” he muttered before he made his way over to the Slytherin table.
“Sunshine,” Jonghyun called happily.
“Idiot.”
“Cheesecake!”
“Troll!”
“Honeybear!”
“Imp!”
“Sweetheart!”
“Would you two lovebirds kindly shut up, there are people trying to eat here!” a girl from the Hufflepuff table called and Jonghyun grinned, Kibum meanwhile seated at his own table but the two still hadn’t stopped shouting endearments at each other.
“Love ya, pumpkin,” he shouted, some people groaning, the older’s boyfriend only rolling his eyes.
“Shut up, I love you too, you oaf.”
Jonghyun nodded satisfied and went back to his lunch, Minho giving him a few odd looks. “I suppose I really don’t want to know what exactly happened to the two people that hated each other’s guts, right?”
The older just sighed dramatically. “Fate happened.”
Minho rolled his eyes and decided not to approach this topic ever again.
“Okay, now show me,” Kibum urged after school, wanting to see his boyfriend’s patronus he finally managed to make. Until now the older had always refused to show him, saying he’d do so once he had succeeded his N.E.W.T.s which he did just yesterday.
Jonghyun raised his wand confidently, flicking his wrist in long practiced motion. “Expecto patronum.”
Blue lines formed into an animal’s body, bigger and broader than Kibum’s own patronus. A wolf slowly strolled over the grass like it owned the place, its chest puffed out confidently, illuminating the ground in a faint blue and throwing its head back as if to howl. Slowly it vanished into thin air and a smile sneaked onto the younger’s face before he turned and saw his boyfriend’s smug expression, rolling his eyes at that.
“And that took you two years to manage,” the black-haired mocked.
“Hey, I just didn’t have the perfect happy memory then.”
Kibum crooked one eyebrow and approached the older, wrapping his arms around his neck and leaning in so most of his weight was resting on the elder’s broad frame, the latter’s hands sneaking around his lover’s slender waist like they did every so often. “Oh really?” he asked with a small grin. “Then what made you so happy that you finally managed to create a patronus?”
“You,” Jonghyun replied without a second thought, grinning at the other’s surprised expression. “Our first kiss to be specific.”
The younger scoffed and rolled his eyes but the smile never left his face. “You really are a sap, do you know that?”
“Of course, but only for you.”
“I hope so.”
“Everything for my boyfriend.”
Kibum smiled lovingly, leaning in to kiss his boyfriend’s awaiting lips. “Fine, but your eyebrows still need a make-over.”
